Bilijin/Communications User Testing Feedback
[edit]1) Discoverability
- Variant A
- Variant B
- Variant C
2) Iconography
- Variant A - Notifications
- Variant B - Messages / Talk page Messages
- Variant C - Profile / User page
3) I would consider mentions, talk page messages, emails from other users, edit reverts and user right changes as priorities.
4) The idea of separating the notification types on the Android app is a good one. The information is presented in an understandable and efficient way but the other notifications might be jumbled up under 'All'.
5) I would prefer all notifications as the default tab. If I had to organize my notification home center, I would have tabs for each notification type and a button/text to 'view all notifications' which would remove/hide the tabs and just show all the notifications in a list.
6)
- C
- D
- B
- H
- G
- F
- E
- I
- A
7) I can't think of any missing notification preference.
8) I think this way of responding to a notification is really efficient. Unless it is an ongoing discussion, in which case I would select need more information, the information presented should be enough to provide a reply.
9) "Thank you", "Thanks for pointing that out", "I'll fix that now", "I agree"
10) A) Yes, Iâd love to see this functionality. Bilijin (talk) 22:13, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- @BilijinThank you so much for your contribution. We will follow up when we have updated designs to demonstrate how your contributions supported our changes to the product and keep in touch as we continue to make improvements to the Wikipedia Android app.
- Thank you so much again! JTanner (WMF) (talk) 12:22, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Oussben/User testing feedback
[edit]1) Discoverability
- Variant A
- Variant C
- Variant B
2) Iconography
- Variant A: Notifications (or updates)
- Variant B: Messages, Mentions on comments
- Variant C: Profile (changing password and other information)
3) Successful/Failed Mentions, Milestone, Page reviews, Thanks, Email from other users
4) I think separating notifications is a good idea, but having All
might bury important notifications inside, like what's happening with FB, even with the iconography used. Mentions might be merged with emails to give more sense
5) I'd like to see Mentions and emails merged under one name and then All. But in the All, I want to be able to distinguish easily the list of notifications, maybe use a slightly different color variation for the background + the icon
6)
- E
- I
- A
- D
- C
- B
- G
- H
- G
7) It has it all, nothing is missing
8) The interface is good and looks efficient
9) Well done, Thank you, Very good point, It will be updated

Still looking for feedback?
[edit]Hi! I stumbled across this only recently and was thinking of providing feedback. Given that it has been a while since the feedback was initially requested, I was doubtful whether it would be useful if I share the feedback. So, do let me know if you're still looking for feedback. Kaartic [talk] 18:50, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Kaartic, we still welcome your input JTanner (WMF) (talk) 14:01, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! Sorry for the delay again. Here are my answers in case they're helpful.
- 1) Discoverability
- Top-right corner.
- Variant A.
- Variant B - Variant C (both don't seem obvious at all)
- 2) Iconography
- Variant A - notifications
- Variant B - something similar the notices in desktop which shares the same icon
- Variant C - profile
- 3) Edits to my user talk page, Edit reverts, Mentions, User rights changes, Emails from other users, Structured Discussions, Failed login attempts, OAuth
- 4) The separation of "All" and "Mentions" is nice but distinguishing of notifications within "All" could be done better.
- 5) I would prefer "All" shown by default.
- 6)
- D) Grouping of notifications (e.g. if someone received several âThanksâ for an article edit, should it be grouped)
- C) A quick way to filter notifications by type (e.g. only show mentions)
- B) A quick way to filter notifications by project (e.g. Wikipedia, Commons, Wikidata)
- A) A quick way to filter notifications by the language of the wiki (e.g. Swedish Wikipedia, Korean Wikipedia)
- I) Easy access to archived notifications
- F) Better notification preferences, e.g. fine-tuning which notifications you receive (see question #7 below)
- H) Customizable swipe left / swipe right actions (Example: Gmail â Settings â General settings â Mail swipe actions)
- E) Search functionality for both new and archived notifications
- G) Notifications for the watchlist
- 7) Failed login attempt, Emails from other users, Structured Discussions. I'm not sure if any of these are already covered under "System".
- 8) If it is possible to see the complete information by scrolling the page, then I feel the approach is a good one. But it might introduce doubt as to where the reply would be added in the conversation. It would be nice if that could be communicated in some way.
- 9) "Thanks", "Thank you", "Support"
- 10) Yes, Iâd love to see this functionality. Kaartic [talk] 19:29, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
