or make the line editable with translation tool. Thanks.--miya (talk) 05:43, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi miya,
Thank you so much for your amazing work! I believe that User:Guillom fixed this problem 40 minutes ago. If it is still not correct, then please let me know.
I really appreciate your work. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 14:15, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes! That's correct. My apologies, I hadn't seen this message. The translated template should show automatically now. Let me know if there's an issue. guillom 14:57, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Guillom. Thank you, Whatamidoing. There seems no problem now. --miya (talk) 16:21, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Name (resolved)[edit]

A user at the English Wikipedia asked whether you might prefer to call it ヴィジュアルエディター

I leave it entirely to your judgment. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:07, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I leave it to the choice of jawp people. When I noticed User:Shirayuki had chosen "ビジュアルエディター" at first, I didn't feel it should be changed to "ヴィジュアルエディター" - as in Japan "ビジュアル" is used more frequently than "ヴィジュアル".:)--miya (talk) 07:53, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Getting feedback to the devs[edit]

Hello, User:Takot, User:Whym, User:Shirayuki, and User:Miya and anyone else watching these pages:

It looks like VisualEditor will be enabled for everyone at the Japanese Wikipedia on Monday afternoon in California, which means very early in the morning on Tuesday in Japan. There has been very little testing there, so I am naturally a little concerned that VisualEditor might not 'speak Japanese' adequately.

Except for Miya, none of you seem to be regular editors at ja.wikipedia, but you do seem to be technically minded people, and you understand Japanese. Would you mind keeping an eye out for feedback there next week? Some feedback will involve known problems, and does not need to be reported. Problems that might be new (or if you are uncertain), needs to be posted (in English, if possible) here at VisualEditor/Feedback or at Bugzilla if you prefer. If there are serious Japanese-specific problems with VisualEditor, then I would like you to tell me personally as soon as possible. In case of an emergency, you can also leave notes for User:Okeyes (WMF) or User:Guillom or find someone at http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=mediawiki-visualeditor

I hope to have a list of common, known problems that I can share with you. I will also look for other people who might be able to help, because I know that you are all busy with other projects here, too.

Thank you for considering my latest request, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 22:50, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Just a quick note to let you know that, according to the new schedule, the Japanese Wikipedia will be included in the "phase3" deployment. The date isn't set yet, but it will be some time in the second half of August, after Wikimania. guillom 06:53, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
After Wikimania? That may be good for jawp after all, as we have not completed the translation of VE helps. --miya (talk) 11:00, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
As I see it, the lack of feedback is caused by the lack of users who opt-in to and try VE on jawiki. I fear that not so many people on jawiki are aware of the new feature so far. We could start by advertising the local page explaining "how to turn it on", which currently seems not visible enough. Getting a local site notice or watchlist notice might be a good idea to raise attention (which would need a local consensus to do). Once many start to use (and start to complain), I can share their voices with the developers. --whym (talk) 14:22, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm a little concerned about what this user wrote at Village pumg of jawp: w:ja:Wikipedia:井戸端/subj/Does the community of ja-wiki have problems with the visual editor?.--miya (talk) 23:34, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't think you need to worry about him. He is a template "guru" at nl.wikipedia, and he dislikes TemplateData. He refuses to use TemplateData, and then he complains that VisualEditor does not work without TemplateData. He is trying to make everyone unhappy because he believes this will force TemplateData to go away. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:48, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
He dislikes TemplateData? I see... TemplateData made me angry when I added TemplateData to ja:Template:図書館 - which has many many parameters - and found I couldn't scroll parameters at all in VE dialog.--miya (talk) 22:36, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
He dislikes TemplateData because he thinks all templates should be so simple that anyone can make them. His problem is with people putting the TemplateData code on "his" templates, not with using VisualEditor.
I believe that the failure to scroll is bug 50354. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 04:57, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Apparently it's bug 51739, and is supposed to be fixed now (or any minute now). Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:12, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
It has been already fixed. Thanks.--miya (talk) 14:12, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

What is the purpose of this repeat button?[edit]

Sometimes when editing via VE a repeat button - an icon shaped like a small bell - would come out and repeat a word which I input just before on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on ... and drive me mad. I hate it! What is the purpose of this repeat button? --miya (talk) 15:35, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Miya, Does it look like ♙? It's a chess pawn, and it (and a similar looking one that is a snowman) means that Parsoid has completely screwed up. You have found a bug. Can you give me a link to the article and tell me what you were doing? If Oliver is around, he can probably tell us off the top of his head whether the bug is known or new. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh, that's it - ♙ - a chess pawn? Do you know where the explanation about it is - in the user's guide or FAQ?--miya (talk) 14:18, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

It came out again! When I tested adding a media file via VE to my userpage and tried to add a caption "ティーカップ" to it :like this. Suddenly VE began to repeat the word on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...till I click somewhere.--miya (talk) 16:49, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Please see User:Miya/VE4(2013-08-13T10:26:07‎). It happened on the last line of plain texts, though sometimes a chess pawn had come out in the middle of a sentence.--miya (talk) 07:05, 13 August 2013 (UTC) corrected the URL--miya (talk)

I've seen looping bugs before, but this is a new one. Reported as bugzilla:53012; thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:04, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Confusing tab name: "Edit" (resolved)[edit]

This is just my personal opinion: Currently the tab names are "Edit" & "Edit source" (「編集」&「ソースを編集」) on article pages and user pages, but this "Edit" is not equal to "Edit" on Wikipedia pages or Help pages - this must be VERY CONFUSING to newcomers. Can you change them to be "Easy edit" & "Edit source" (「簡単編集」&「ソースを編集」) - or else change the "Edit" (all the tabs which enable users to edit wiki source) on Wikipedia pages or Help pages into "Edit source"? so that the "Edit" would have the same meaning all through the MediaWiki pages. Thanks.--miya (talk) 23:45, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

I'd like to oppose the VE deployment to jawp until this suggestion above adopted - until you have this "Edit"(「編集」) tab LESS CONFUSING.--miya (talk) 00:30, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

I personally wish to have them like below:
Would-be names of the Edit tabs
VE edit wiki edit wiki edit
namespace articles and user pages articles and user pages Other pages
en "Easy edit" "Edit source" "Edit"
ja 「簡単編集」 「ソースを編集」 「編集」
--miya (talk) 00:49, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
This has been suggested at other wikis, and I think it is a good idea. I'm not sure how to do it, but I believe that it could be done directly at ja.wikipedia by an admin. In fact, I think it would be a good idea to change the 'Edit' button to 'Edit source' now, rather than waiting, and to have all pages that use the wikitext editor say 'Edit source', no matter what kind of page it is. Perhaps User:Okeyes (WMF) will know how to do it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:48, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
The below may work better, which would not change anything if a user would not click "Easy edit":
Would-be names of the Edit tabs
VE edit wiki edit wiki edit
namespace articles and user pages articles and user pages Other pages
en "Easy edit" "Edit" "Edit"
ja 「簡単編集」 「編集」 「編集」
Because most ja people are indifferent to VE and they would not mind VE as long as it would not affect their activity. In other words they must be angry if VE would open when they click "Edit"(編集) button and would not work as smooothly as they expect (current VE is too heavy and buggy to edit a complicated content).--miya (talk) 22:20, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
That's another option. The normal way to make this change is to have a discussion at the wiki, in which people decide what change they want. Then you file a bug report requesting that the developers make the change, and they do it for you.
We think that it is possible to do it locally, although it might not work as well. You would need an admin/sysop to create pages that have the new names for the buttons, such as Mediawiki:vector-view-edit and Mediawiki:visualeditor-ca-editsource. The contents of the new pages would be just the new names. See https://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=三浦淳一&uselang=qqx for the button names. You would need to create new buttons for Vector and Monobook skins. But we are not certain that this would work correctly all the time. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 04:48, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

A chess pawn on Firefox[edit]

The chess pawn bug has got A LITTLE better - please see User:Miya/VE9 - it repeats only twice instead of repaeating endlessly. Note that chess pawns would come up at the last place of the last line.--miya (talk) 06:12, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm glad that it's slightly improved, but that's still a problem. I'm going to post that information to the main feedback page at Thread:VisualEditor/Feedback/Chess pawns in Japanese. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:54, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
