Talk:SUL finalisation/Global account merge

Migrated global account names[edit]

In this doc I see Philippe@frwiki used, but elsewhere I have seen Philippe~frwiki. Which is more correct? --BDavis (WMF) (talk) 17:40, 8 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Philippe@frwiki means a local w:fr:User:Philippe; Philippe~frwiki would be its new username globally, so it would become Philippe~frwiki@frwiki attached to Philippe~frwiki@global. --Nemo 17:59, 8 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Multiple accounts on the same wiki?[edit]

What happens if there are multiple accounts on the same wiki?

Example:

  1. Two local accounts, A@enwiki and A@frwiki, exist. The accounts have different passwords and e-mail addresses and no A@global exists. Both accounts belong to the same person.
  2. When SUL is finalised, A@global is automatically created, and A@enwiki is attached to A@global.
  3. To resolve the user name conflict, A@frwiki is renamed to B@frwiki, and B@global is created, to which B@frwiki is attached.
  4. A logs in, goes to a page on Meta-Wiki and requests to be merged with B.
  5. B logs in, goes to the same page on Meta-Wiki and confirms the request.
  6. A and/or B potentially make edits to other projects whilst waiting for the request to be processed.

After the above procedure, we should have at least the following local accounts (and potentially more if other projects also are visited and edited):

  • A@loginwiki & B@loginwiki (both with no edits)
  • A@metawiki & B@metawiki (both with at least one edit for the account request)
  • A@enwiki
  • B@frwiki

Questions:

  • What will happen to A@loginwiki and B@loginwiki?
  • What will happen to A@metawiki and B@metawiki and their associated edits?

Will the loginwiki and metawiki accounts be merged (with B's edits moved to A@metawiki and the extra accounts deleted)? What will happen to log entries and permissions? --Stefan2 (talk) 14:54, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
