Talk:Requests for comment/A central repository for templates and other bits and pieces

From mediawiki.org

The effort is appreciated, but...[edit]

The problem isn't "should we do this", we already know we should. It's planning how exactly it should work and getting people to work on it, and for assigning WMF developer time balancing this with other priorities. BJorsch (WMF) (talk) 20:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Rob for the write up. Especially now that it was renamed, this document is an exact duplicate of m:Requests for comment/Global bits and pieces; additionally, it contains no specific technical proposal, hence it's out of scope for the MediaWiki RfC process, while it's perfectly in scope for Meta-Wiki's documentation/discussion of wiki practices, use cases etc. Hence I've merged the two to avoid additional confusion. Having one document of good quality for the general issue is useful. --Nemo 23:02, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo: I don't think this is entirely correct; this RfC is talking about a globally-global system (like InstantCommons) as well as merely a farm-global issue which is what the Meta page talks about. The two are distinct. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 16:29, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Now proposed at m:Global bits and pieces. Rob Kam (talk) 08:05, 29 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
