About giving feedback
Please read Reading/Web/PDF Functionality and comment on the plans we lay out there, to tell us what you need from the PDF service. We're especially interested in what you need in the future that doesn't exist in the plans laid out there – if there's a bug with something that should work right now (e.g. you get an error message when you try to create a PDF), we need to fix it, of course, but that would have been on the agenda.
Update: (23 April 2018) PediaPress will take over the development of the books-to-PDF functionality. See Reading/Web/PDF Functionality for more information.
Updates: (24 February 2018)
- Kerning and spacing issues (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T178665): there has been a few reports on spacing issues within PDF rendering. The readers web team is currently looking into a solution. We will first be updating the fonts for PDFs (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T181200) over the week of November 27. This will resolve some but not all of the spacing issues. We'll be looking further into the remaining issues after the initial fix.
Progress?
[edit]Back in April, you and PediaPress were "working on the details and schedule". Has anything happened since then? Is there a public repos or somewhere that this is being tracked? Steelpillow (talk) 21:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
- There's been some work – over the last week we've been making sure the design details make sense, for example – but the short answer is "not really", as PediaPress are working on this on the side, and have other full-time work. The goal is to have something presentable by Wikimania in a couple of weeks.
- (We understand the delay is unfortunate. The problem, mainly, is that this isn't something we wanted to do and properly had all the resources for – the PDF renderer was breaking down, and then our solution didn't perform well for books.) Johan (WMF) (talk) 00:30, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. Best of luck at Wikimania and I look forward your conference report. :) Steelpillow (talk) 14:39, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

No bad formatting in general
[edit]The point is more this "PDF-Problem-Announcement" is now pretty old - I think about 1 year or so and nothing has been told yet WHEN the problems are completely solved. But now I got this idea that there is never any PDF-problem but some jurisdiction made Wikipedia retreating from the "Creating Books Function" and we all know what's going on in some background no one will ever tell in order to leave FOR NOW the chance to make all WIKIs survive for some more years - maybe less.
Or did no one realize that the internet owners are going forward step by step to reduce important information for the public? And either let it be deleted completely so you will nit even find it in old archieves or will only give information details for payments.
That's the true future of internet and billions will wonder one day what changed...
I don't like to put up such discussions but I am doing much research every day and can tell that this is already going on since longer and it will go on until nothing is left for the public unless buying what others want you to buy or wasting time and money on rubbish like tales of celebrities or gaming or sex portals...
Beware of that - because it will be the last period of free information worldwide all governments want to reduce to zero or falsificates to manipulate the audiences.
Sory to tell but seems people just don't want to realize in what they are all running into - like lemmings.

P. S. I got some account but I am tired of opening and reopening accounts everywhere...
Whoever thinks there must be somthing said, I am able to take it and you might send it to eha281150 either mail account.
Wishing more people active brains.... 2003:C7:A720:B196:4FF:B3B5:C7C2:1CE (talk) 07:37, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- I must admit I'm not quite certain I even understand the main point of this message, but the sad truth is that not knowing when something will be fully solved one year later is not very uncommon in software development, because you never know exactly how to solve something in beforehand. We had a solution for books. For performance reasons, it didn't work. Like a not insignificant amount of Wikimedia technical development, this is partly a volunteer effort, done in someone's spare time. That makes figuring out when something will be done even more complicated.
- We had a couple of meetings at Wikimania recently, and will soon post what updates we have from there (I got home a couple of hours ago). Johan (WMF) (talk) 07:32, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
