About giving feedback

Please read Reading/Web/PDF Functionality and comment on the plans we lay out there, to tell us what you need from the PDF service. We're especially interested in what you need in the future that doesn't exist in the plans laid out there – if there's a bug with something that should work right now (e.g. you get an error message when you try to create a PDF), we need to fix it, of course, but that would have been on the agenda.

Updates:

- Kerning and spacing issues (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T178665): there has been a few reports on spacing issues within PDF rendering. The readers web team is currently looking into a solution. We will first be updating the fonts for PDFs (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T181200) over the week of November 27. This will resolve some but not all of the spacing issues. We'll be looking further into the remaining issues after the initial fix.

- Update on the book creator. We're still in the process of performance testing the new renderer (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T178278). Once this stage is complete, we will be able to provide more details on its capacity to render books.

Super nice PDF ... I just enjoy it

[edit]

Hi, this new PDF facility is great. We get all the pictures and table in a nice design.

The fonts are great too with nice enlarge titles and many more details.

The ONLY DOWN item is the missing Page of page numbering with a nice Date Time stamp.

Please do not modify it ... I just tested it with different topics like software , telecommunication technologies and more and this new format is super good. 24.48.187.116 (talk) 15:54, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your feedback.
When you say "page of page numbering", do you mean a separate page with Table of contents and last modified information, such as in books ? —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talkcontribs) 09:40, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Missing pictures in some pages

[edit]

This PDF functionality is really great and has been very useful for me, but sometimes when I download some pages as PDF, I see some pictures missing, especially formulas (like this link: [1]). Please fix this issue. Strangify (talk) 13:27, 6 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, formulas is a known problem. It's noted. Johan (WMF) (talk) 06:17, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

how to change font

[edit]

this one is kinda ugly Chloe327 (talk) 13:39, 6 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, sometimes we simply have to live with design decisions made by others, even when we disagree with them. Johan (WMF) (talk) 06:17, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Clarify please, Translations:Reading/Web/PDF Functionality/16/ja

present: All PDF's rendered will be able to print tables

Is it intended to say: All tables in rendered PDF will be printable ?? Omotecho (talk) 07:26, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

All tables in articles will be able to be shown in the PDFs and/or printed. This has not been the case. Johan (WMF) (talk) 16:47, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Does that clarify it? Johan (WMF) (talk) 16:47, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Problem with tiny fonts

[edit]

Is there a way to modify the pdf font size? My pdf downloads have a tiny font, perhaps 5-6 points, which makes printed hard-copies hard to read. (I use Windows 10 and Adobe Acrobat to view/print). 76.90.54.103 (talk) 21:04, 13 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

That is strange. Which wiki (assuming it's a Wikimedia one) are you trying to create PDFs from? I just tried to download a page here on mw.org, one on English Wikipedia, and one on German Wikipedia - and saw different font sizes. I filed a task so let me see if I can get some of the product folks to take a look. CKoerner (WMF) (talk) 19:19, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ah, there's been an update in the task I created. Apparently this is due to a very wide table in the article. Please see the task for more information. CKoerner (WMF) (talk) 15:47, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Book creator in Arabic Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi @Johan (WMF), the book creator in Arabic Wikipedia (and sister projects?) does't work. We don't see the template above containing (Book creator ( disable ) Add this page to your book Show book (0 pages) Suggest pages). We do really need it to be fixed so that we can offer content to Arabic MOCC platforms. It's name in Arabic is (إنشاء كتاب) and you can find it directly above the download as PDF link (تحميل PDF) Helmoony (talk) 17:16, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Indeed. The book-to-PDF function was supposed to be activated again now. It hasn't been. We apologize. We'll do some performance testing towards the end of the month and will know more then. Johan (WMF) (talk) 23:43, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wrong Spacing

[edit]

Creating a PDF there are a lot of mistakes with spacing. You can see this creating a PDF from Pat Martino. Most of spacings between an upper letter and a small letter are close together, i.e. "Year", "Vincent", "Award", "Walk". Also special letter for citations like [ are too much close. Also some double letters like in "Jazz" has a wrong typography.. This will be happen in the German and English section. Rkendlbacher (talk) 03:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we're having some spacing issues. We're looking into it. Johan (WMF) (talk) 23:42, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Super New PDF tool should lead to No Columns Option

[edit]

I am very pleased to tell how this new PDF tool renders the article in a nice way. We can see all the tables and it is just great. . I would like to see the NOT TWO Columns version available. It is a lot better since we can get large Tables Charts or so without any crops... Having this option will be very productive too.

Super New PDF tool should lead to No Columns Option II

[edit]

Yesterday I made this comment but I found a little confusing part.

My comment was to underline that the New PDF file result is excellent without the (before) two columns design.

With the present one, we can get a nice document with all (and not cropped) tables , charts or photos.

I hope that this update will make my comment clean and no confusing.

Charakter size of the text in a PDF document created by use of the book function

[edit]
Some time ago i had put together somme WikiPedia articles as a book. i had ordered this book as a printed version. when i received this book i was a little bit surprised because the text was really very small. it seemd to me as if the pages were cretad f.i. in DIN A4 format originally and then reduced to DIN A5 before printing. Due to the fact that i have medical proböems with both my eyes for some years i would prefer to have the text of a book, generated with the book function inside wikipedia, printed in some greater letters... or even better that the text size of the output document woul be a parameter which could be justified individually by the user.
i hope you can understand what i mean and eventually can the WikiPedia team think about my issue.
Kind regards and thanks a lot in advance. 217.230.235.132 (talk) 13:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
