"Sometimes we also have language translation sprints"[edit]

There is at least one during the hackathon (the other one is in the main conference schedule instead). Can I promote it directly on the page? Thanks, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:37, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thanks for asking!
This page is specifically meant to be a generic page which will be reused for every future hackathon for newbies to refer to - so it would be best not to put any one time event specific information on it. In order to make sure to get the max visibility for your sprint you can make sure it is posted on the hackathon page under "confirmed projects", also make sure it has a Phabricator task which associates it with the hackathon and finally make sure that it is on the schedule. Sometime people also email relevant mailing lists in advance of the hackathon to get the word out as well. Hope this helps! Rfarrand (WMF) (talk) 07:37, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have done or plan to do everything you mention. Thanks for taking the time to answer, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 07:42, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

More Newcomer Information to be included when newcomer/ new participant documentation is done over[edit]

Three Steps to Prepare for a Hackathon[edit]

Take from [3 Steps to Prepare for a Hackathon] from the Wikimedia Hackathon 2017 Vienna and turn it into a generic page.

Resources for Newcomers[edit]

Take from this page [Resources for Newcomers] from the Wikimedia Hackathon 2017 Vienna and turn it into a generic (not event specific) page or integrate it into a bigger newcomer knowledgeable. e.g. this extensive documentation:

[Laptop setup page and it's numerous sub-pages]
