spage feedback[edit]

Please crop or highlight the mockups to only show what's different, it's hard to tell what's different.

Since things are changing in a more holistic way that would probably be pretty hard at the moment, for developers the final design document could be more granular it it would help Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • "Board:User name" will that really be the name, with a new namespace and a new tab? Are we going to rename the talk namespace, or is this as an alternative to the Talk namespace?
Unsure, we can make a decision on this, but as with anything else it could change, my preference is we don't have Namespace:Username but just have something like Real name (username) Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Perhaps you should be optimistic and use the Jon Robson font changes (serif headings, gray left-hand nav) in mockups
May can update the "chrome" but its not really the focus of what we're looking at Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:51, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Besides Active | My mentions | Search, is there an "All" state for the top line?
Not at the moment, but thats a good point, I think the goal was to emphasis stale, deleted, and otherwise "not active" conversations, and even in "Active" there will be a gradient of activity Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done, we did away with search (probably not feasible in MVP) and now just have all and history Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:51, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Lot of gray in the topic header, and it feels unbalanced. A bit too much gray space above ( I like a 45-degree line from the top-left corner to the top-left of the first heading character), and too much leading after the small text.
Yep, same thought in our design review, May will iterate on this to decrease the headers in both size and visual weight while increasing the contrast in those headers Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:51, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • The topic header lacks "Last modified about 13 days ago", there's enough room next to 3 participants * 10 conversations to show it all the time.
They are actually in the second screenshot, as of iteration 2 they are on hover only but in our design review we decided to have them always visible in the relative display and show the specific time stamp on hover Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • The inset [Hide] button is interesting, it should be more Agora-button-like (and the Agora spec should detail the hover/click states for such flat inset buttons).
Still iterating on this, we're split on icon vs text, weighing the value of both, might be a good to have both (can we modify the user story to include A/B testing of icon and text implementations) Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I couldn't tell what the green laugh icon means
Same as in echo, its the icon for "thank" also this is still being iterated on Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • "conversations" is confusing, a single topic is or should be a single conversation? Just call them "posts".
Good point, posts might not be in the users language but the current one is a bit awkward Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
    • I mildly disagree with calling them "comments", I think "posts" is suitably generic.
you mean comment vs reply? I think we can have a group discussion about nomenclature Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
We need a Flow dictionary :) Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Users will want to customize the "Welcome, I'll be happy to answer any questions" text :)
yes, this is accounted for in the notes on iteration 2 Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • [More Discussions] button should use sentence capitalization ("More discussions"), and should be less button-y. Does it load in place or go on to another page? If the former, maybe a very light bar with an inset link to [Load more discussions], like Load more at the end of topics. If it is a link to another page, I think it should be more like a hyperlink.
This is another great group discussion i think, we have to design for 3 scenarios, good connection, and the user doens't see the page loader, slow connection, and they see the loader prefetching more content, and a non JS user who need actual pagination controls
We didn't get to this, but we can talk about it whenever we're working on the pagination card (which I'm fairly certain is a thing... /me digs for it). Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • You need a permalink (if that's what it is) next to each post, not just the topic
It seems like this puts the post in a total vacuum which could be pretty confusing, if we do have a permalink to individual posts, i think we'd demphasize it in favor of having them prominent at a topic level. Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
As May explained it, on rollover the "4 days ago" of an individual post becomes a timestamp link, and clicking that takes you to the history of the individual post, and in that there will be permalinks. -- S Page (WMF) (talk) 22:26, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oliver feedback[edit]

  • "State and explain your point" here looks really, really strange as a first entry under a topic name.
We'll need to wordsmith this Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:57, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I feel like summarising/closing should be behind some sort of link and not displayed in the default interface - it occupies a ton of space and isn't necessarily that big of a deal as a feature.
in the notes we talked a bit about how we could selectively show this, e.g. thread of a particular length, age, number of participants, as wells when a user explicitly closes a conversation Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • What does the smiley face here mean?
This is the same icon used for thanks in echo notifications, and it means the same thing here, that you've thanked the user who posted the specific comment Jared Zimmerman (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:33, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Has no one thanked you yet, Oliver?? That's tragic :( Maryana (WMF) (talk) 00:57, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
They had, but not since the icon changed in late July. ;) –Quiddity (talk) 01:22, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
