make the translation time limit

hello and thank you for this great Feature

you need to make the translation a timer and make it limited because some pages which I want to translate is translating by a user

and that user has not translated the page for almost 2 months!!!!

pleas there are some major page which should be in my language

and this is kinda Necessary for this feature because if someone wants to troll and not letting anyone translate the specific pages ...you should find a way to ban this user and the best way is time limit

thank you

Hi! I've opened the translation tool for making pages in a few languages that I don't know at all, such as Igbo and Cree. This makes it so that whenever I go to a page that doesn't have versions in this language, the language list has gray links to make one in these languages that are useless as I cannot do this.

How can I edit the list of languages that links to the translation tool show up in?

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

Hi, allow me to confirm: Can you confirm the following workflow please? I sometimes find #6 show me the second language I work on, but usually change it with no problem. Apology ahead if I miss your point.

If you start at Translation board:

1) push green button; (in my case, the system remembers I have last time worked on en last time),

2) next dialogue appears, with input box for page title; do you see the long one at the upper part of the page?

3) do you see a smaller box, almost touching the right end of the long box?

4) click the smaller box and select source language you wish to start; for my case, en->ja;

5) button above 4) is language selector, and usually remembers which one you have selected last time;

6) next time you open the translation board, and the smaller box (language selector) is supposed to display the last source language.

Cheers,

Automatic translation failed

I had a message : Automatic translation failed (from Deutsch to French). .Is there any solution?

The article; Bernsteinvorkommen. I was on Firefox.

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

Hello, are you on Windows or iOS/Apple? I have been encountering problems on my iPad. Are you not?

I was on Windows. It happened when I began the translation of a list (a board). Before that everything was normal.

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

Thank you for confirmation. Yes, I don’t know the reason but lists/tables sometimes fails to work normal. Too bad. I will try and see if de-ja translation on Bernsteinvorkommen on iOS13 fails as well.

YTRK (talkcontribs)

I encountered a similar problem. The paragraph contained a #tag:ref template, so I think that is probably the cause in my case. En-ja, on Windows 10.

[Needless to say, that such type of lists with muti-multi-multi t-disambiguated pages have seen hundreds of hours of research which article name needs disambiguated and how (German rules differ; we don't take state oder county but river to mouth-in, so each case must be verified with map.] Short: I want my text in which I already spent hundreds of hours.

Matthiasb (talkcontribs)

No ideas how to resolve this problem? --Matthiasb (talk) 15:24, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

Hello, @Matthiasb, do you care to read the link on my userpage where I keep an old link to salvage lost translation? It is only a suggestion that maybe your case, too, can be adjusted as follows.

In my case, not exactly as yours, since my translation was accessible. Wikipedia page top > Contributions > Translation > CX2 board, and the list shows what I wanted to continue. However, when I click on “Publish” button, cog wheel spins forever and no result. I was advised to open translation database, search for my translation, and copy&paste all the lines out on local editor window or user/sandbox.

FYI, my translation was also with many tables/links. Hope anybody else will give you the correct answe if mine is a garbage. Cheers,

ENTER key deletes the sentence

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

In fr-ja translation, on the ja pane on the right: My input was deleted when any of the following action, not sequentially. Not only the manually changed phrase, but also CX2 output (ja) following the deleted part also disappeared.

What I was doing:

(1) Inside right pane, copy&pasted part of the translated sentence to correct word order.

  • When I selected a phrase in ja and tried to overwrite, I chose from input drop down and press [Enter] to select correct word;
    • Japanese language as being double byte scripts applies romanized/alphabetical characters to input; then a list of kanji or kanji+hiragana combo is shown in a small dropdown, which share the pronunciation; from which you need to choose one by pushing [Enter] key.

(2) To recover the CX2 output erased as in (1), and I wished to use the wikilink function anyway by using fr terms:

  • I forcefully c&p from the fr on the left pane to the right pane and added fr text;
  • I continued to work as above, either overwrite or input ja characters, then with [Enter] key, the input as well as the following text is lost.

How I tried to recover:

As it deleted the following CX2 output, and I wished to use the wikilinf function, I forcefully c&p from the fr on the left pane to the right pane and added fr text which was lost as above. I continued to work as above, either overwrite or input ja characters, then with [Enter] key, the input as well as the following text is lost.

  • I applied the Undo (turn left arrow) button at the far right pane, but it did not recover to what I wished to see: I wish Undo button in this case will null manual change as well as recover the CX2 output gone with that.

Which cause I suspect:

  • I am using an old iPad mini2 A1489, iOS 12.4.6, Safari.

Please kindly advise me if you would need further details, thank you in advance to see to it. Cheers,

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

It’s totally off-topic, though, when I correct my writing and copy&move, it looks fine during preview. But after publishing, I am astonished to see some parts appear twice, while during preview they did not.

I wish you would share your idea in English, as this is for international editors

Omotecho (talkcontribs)

@HaussmannSaintLazare:You posted on jawp_user_talk page, which I decline as encyclopedic subjects should go there. I understand your good intention anyhow, but I am afraid your input is totally out of scope. Please read carefully my problem. As you write elsewhere therein, your input is not relevant in this case.

New translators available

4
Hectoralos (talkcontribs)

There are new translators available in Apertium that are not loaded in Content Translation sometimes for more than one year. There are several new releases and new language pairs, among them French-Occitan and Polish-Silesian for which there are no other translators available. It would be great if you could update the versions of the Apertium translators and possibly other translators.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback, @Hectoralos.

We have a process to update Apertium packages periodically. Sometimes those updates require some other package updates or infrastructure changes and may get stuck for a while. I've forwarded the feedback to the team in case there was any blocker or missing configuration.

Thanks!

@Pginer-WMF, sorry, are there any news? Still, there aren't any changes, as far as I see.

Where shall we write bug report ?

Summary last edited by HaussmannSaintLazare 10:37, 13 May 2020 13 days ago

See How to report a bug as already linked everywhere on this very website.

AAKlapper (WMF) wrote Summary. But I think this is inappropriate, because AAKlapper (WMF) has no experience of using content translation.

Hello !!!

In w:Wikipedia:Bug reports and feature requests I have found next sentences;

Bug reports and feature requests (collectively called tasks) relating to the MediaWiki software that powers Wikipedia, should be filed on Wikimedia's Phabricator.

On the other hand, in the content translation Give us feedback button links to this page.

This discrepancy indicates that either or both are wrong.

Which is right, or both are wrong?

Thank you !!!

(sorry I have misspelled feedback--HaussmannSaintLazare (talk) 18:56, 10 May 2020 (UTC))

Wargo (talkcontribs)

Bugs on phabricator but some opinions can be shared here.

HaussmannSaintLazare (talkcontribs)

This section was a bug report that text in content translation is inconsistent with that of the other locations. But AAKlapper (WMF) did not realize that this was a bug report.
