Please provide feedback about the Content translation tool on this page.

We suggest checking the Frequently Asked Questions page first.

When reporting a bug, it will help us a lot if you will indicate the following things:

  • Which article were you translating and to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide log from browser console if possible. To open browser console: press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac).

In case you are familiar with Phabricator, please consider reporting a bug there.

Interwikis no longer being linked automatically + refs in infoboxes

Victor Lopes (talkcontribs)

Hello! It's been a while that every time I translate an article, the two versions are no longer automatically linked via Wikidata, forcing me to do it manually.

Also, whenever I try translating an infobox, refs contained in the original box are not included in the translated version automatically, requiring another "manual" edit to include them.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Confirm the interwiki link need to be set manually in Wikidata.

If the infobox template does not exist in the target langugage, it is beeing converted to a table of ignored.

Weblinks from DE->NL do not translate

Take Mirrenberg (talkcontribs)

There is no good automatic translation for the Weblinks section in Proteste in Hongkong 2019.

Is the template not recognized?

One result for instance of the second entry is:

  • Massive Proteste: Hongkongs Regierungschefin stoppt umstrittenes Auslieferungsgesetz. Massive Proteste: Hongkongs Regierungschefin stoppt umstrittenes Auslieferungsgesetz. Spiegel online . 15e   Massive Proteste: Hongkongs Regierungschefin stoppt umstrittenes Auslieferungsgesetz.; opgehaald op 16.   Juni 2019 .

Thanks for the feedback, @Take Mirrenberg.

I've checked that the content you mention is structured using templates for internet references and Youtube.

The German template for internet references is connected to equivalent templates in 28 languages, but there is no equivalent template for Dutch. So Content translation does not know which template to use and tries to add the content as plain text for the information not to get lost.

Apart from this, it seems that the reference in the source document appears duplicated which should not happen, and I created a ticket for further investigation.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

The template:multiple image does not arange to equivalent parameters of the desination language template. the CXT only allows to view it, exit and edit the target language template and it deacivates coping to content.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback, @Hans Haase.

Can you share one example article where we can experience this problem?

Can't paste copied references from cilpboard anymore.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

When coping a reference from left column and paste it into the translation column "Vorlage:Sfn" in red. the clipboad contains:"Template:Sfn" The shortened footnote template does not exist in German. I have no idea, how to create this template.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback, @Hans Haase,

References use templates to structure their content. Unfortunately, templates are created independently on each wiki, so the Content translation tool needs to find the corresponding templates and parameters in each wiki to copy the information over. In some cases, those templates may not exist on a given wiki.

the {{Reflist}} tempate should be converted correctly. It is sill manual work to do.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback, @Hans Haase.

Support for templates and support for references in particular is a complex area where we have been making progress but there are still aspects that need support. In order to investigate and resolve the particular issue we need some more details. Can you share more information on the particular case where you find the issue, and the kind of fixes that you had to do. This will be very useful to report and investigate further the issue.

בהודעת השגיאה על ערך קצר מידי כתוב "לחיצה על שמירה" ואין כפתור כזה. יתכן שהכוונה ל"לחיצה על פרסום"

Can't see whether an image is available for the target language or not

2 (talkcontribs)

On Content Translation editor, even language local pictures are visible to the target language preview, and have no visible difference to identify it is unavailable in the translation. I think it's a quite odd behavior.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Pictures stored on the local project need to be transfered to Commons or the target laguage Wikipedia projekt. Sometimes missing permissions prohibit this.

For more than 10 days (see Topic:V6o2yca2g42y7rxu), on the French Wikipedia (at least) and apparently for *all users* there, the interwiki links (stored in Wikidata) are not added any more. I checked randomly amongst the last translations, none had the link (by different users and on different days).

@Amire80, Pginer-WMF:

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback, @VIGNERON.

This is an important regression, and we plan to fix it. You can check this ticket to track the progress and add further comments.

In the past we got reports of similar problems that were just a delay due to the cache, and we initially assumed that to be the origin until we could investigate further.

Thanks for the report!

Is there some global statistics of use of ContentTranslation? I could look up at every Wikipedia "Special:Tags" and count the "contenttranslation" tag but isn't there a recap somewhere? and is there other stats, like the tag only give me the destination language, is there any way to know the origin language ?

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

The first thing to try is to open Special:CXStats in the Wikipedia in the language that interests you the most. (There is a link to this page in the sidebar of the Content Translation dashboard, Special:ContentTranslation.)

If you need anything more, please ask :)

VIGNERON (talkcontribs)

Thanks, that excalty what I was looking for ;)

issue with translation page. it is auto scrolling

Kintrbr (talkcontribs)

The page is auto scrolling, I amn't doing the scrolling. You can see a demo here - pQbO8x6uwi8. wiki doesn't let me post a youtube video, that is the ID of the video.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Thne CXT is a translation tool only. Change, modify and expand the article before translating it or later edit both articles. If the CXT scolls anyway, move to mouse out of the window after positioning the cursor.
