Parse error when I try to publish a translation

MCarlos (talkcontribs)

Hi, I translated a English article into Spanish but I can't publish it. Every time I click the publish button i get this error: There has been an error. Try again.Error: parsoidserver-http: HTTP 503

I checked around here to see if someone else had the same problem but the solutions given didn't work, this

didn't work, since my translation wasn't published after the error and this one didn't work because my translation has a references section.

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

Same here, getting the exact same error at a translation from Finnish to Romanian. Just to test, I translated an article from English to Romanian, and it was published successfully.

MCarlos (talkcontribs)

well, I tried with a fresh translation instead of one I had been working for a couple days and I receive the error anyways, I guess it's a language specific error, then

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

@MCarlos, @Andrei Stroe, thanks for the reports. This is one of the main issues on which the team is working now.

Were your articles published eventually? You can check it in your contributions page.

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

I still can't publish mine. It's definitely not published.

MCarlos (talkcontribs)

same as @Andrei Stroe, tried again today, still can't publish

MCarlos (talkcontribs)

@Amire80 ok, status report, i was able to publish the fresh translation that i started yesterday, but the 2 days old translation still throw an error, i going to assume that it's corrupted or something, I will restart it I guess :( at least the text is already translated

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

I copy-pasted the content of my translation, paragraph by paragraph, to the Visual Editor and tried to save it. I got the exact same error. I think my problem is on that parsoid server component, whatever it is, that seems to be used by both the VisualEditor and the ContentTranslation Tool. It might be something with the text I'm translating, but I don't know what, because the error is cryptic.

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

This is almost certainly due to the footnotes. I tried to copy and paste text from the translation to the VE, and then switch from VE to source editing. It works when no footnotes are added, but at any paragraph that has a footnote, it freezes.

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

Is this being tracked anywere on phabricator?

Never mind. Found it: phab:T109230

Alphajet (talkcontribs)

Same error in Indonesia version, also I can't edit table, still in English

Alphajet (talkcontribs)

Texyalen (talkcontribs)

same in Chinese here lot of page can't publish

Louis Anderson (talkcontribs)

Sane here in Vietnamese. Please fix

Palmira K (talkcontribs)

Same error in catalan Wikipedia.

Vikecka (talkcontribs)

I have same problem when I translate from English to Czech.

Patrickov (talkcontribs)

Same problem here. My draft number is 59147 (English wikipedia "Test Cricket" to Chinese). Does the fact that a table exists matter?

95.86.72.43 (talkcontribs)

I tried to translate article from English to Hebrew and got "parsererror". Clicking again on the publish button I got message that the page was already created.

HTTH (talkcontribs)

As I tried to publish an article (German -> Japanese) in my user page as a draft, I got the message "parsoidserver-http: HTTP 503". Can anyone help me?

Runab WMF (talkcontribs)

Hi everyone, and much apologies for all the trouble. This was a major problem we encountered last week and unfortunately affected a lot of translations. This is now fixed and should not occur any more. Please try publishing again and if you see the errors, do please let us know. It would be extremely helpful if you could tell us the language names and the articles you were trying to publish. Thank you.

Andrei Stroe (talkcontribs)

Thanks for all the work. My translations have finally been successfully published, except for the translation to Romanian of https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ContentTranslation?page=Ven%C3%A4j%C3%A4n%E2%80%93Turkin+sota+%281735%E2%80%931739%29&from=fi&to=ro&targettitle=R%C4%83zboiul+Ruso-Turc+%281735%E2%80%931739%29&draft=58470 which keeps getting the 503.

Runab WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks @Andrei Stroe . We can check the logs to see if something stares back as a possible problem about that article. Sorry about the trouble.

When translating from English to Spanish, I often find that ref notes don't appear after some sentences, but they do after others. I have to go in later and manually add refs.

Note that I'm translating and publishing on my user page, not directly to a new article.

A bot creating an 'import request' before translating from English Wikipedia to German Wikipedia can begin????

3
Stinglehammer (talkcontribs)

Hi, one of our students on the Translation Studies MSc at the University of Edinburgh has encountered an odd problem in that before she could begin to translate an article from English Wikipedia to German Wikipedia, she was told an 'import request' had to be filled out and approved.

Is this a new thing been added in and is it just for articles going from EnWiki to Dewiki?

Stinglehammer (talkcontribs)

The bot is Luke081515Bot

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

If the article is not listet in w:de:WP:Importwünsche and there is no Englisch copy to the revision history (Versionsgeschichte), have the article an entry in w:de:WP:Importwünsche by clicking the blue button "Neuen Importwunsch anlegen". This procedure orders an administrator or a privileged user with the article import rights to copy the revision history from the source article to meet the requirements of the here used and Creative Commons license showing each editor individual contributions.

Abuse filter problem on Chinese Wikipedia

3
Stinglehammer (talkcontribs)

We keep hitting an ‘Abuse Filter’ when trying to publish on Chinese Wikipedia – doesn’t seem to matter if it is publishing to live space or the draftspace and we’re finding a lot of good Featured Article translations take 3,4,5, even as many as 8 attempts to publish because they keep hitting the abuse filter and all sorts of warnings that they are posting unhelpful edits to Chinese Wikipedia when really they are doing anything but.

I don’t believe it is the subject of the article that is the issue – just that the abuse filter is too highly strung that it rejects good content as well as bad. Currently, we are trying to publish the Overman Committe article from English Wikipedia to the personal draft space of Chinese Wikipedia but it won't allow us to do this at all.

What do you think? Anything we can do here?

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

This is something that must eventually be resolved by Chinese Wikipedia administrators who maintain the AbuseFilters in there.

The subject is usually not an issue for AbuseFilter. It works mostly according to certain strings in the articles' text, and other conditions such as username, number of edits, the time since creating the user account, etc.

Which message do you see when you try to publish?

Stinglehammer (talkcontribs)

Hi Amire80, I'll email you how we got round the problem.

Why could not It save my translation

6
Horizon Sunset (talkcontribs)

I saw this problem when I was translating an article. And then I refreshed the webpage, but it still could not save my translation.

And I saw two same templates in my translation, but there was only one in original.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

In the English Wikipedia the CXT is temporary restricted and only permitted for users with least 500 contributions and a minimum of 30 days since signup. As Your account has no other contributions, I recommend other contributions first.

The CXT allows to select, add and fill more fields from the destination template. From the philosophy of the CXT, this should be the way to bring the data into the destination article. The other way is to fix it later when published.

Templates are not identical and most likely not compatible to other language project. The CXT allows to choose and fill other fields to make fill the translated template as good as possible. For example, the German templates are known to combine data and request unnecessary or redundant data. The English match the need of information much better.

As the templates are customized on each project, individual and discussed solutions are made of missing knowledge, not accessible information, or the try on simplifying information due a point of view on notability, fields of the template in an other language often do not match.

I decided to copy and fill the templates manually after publication. One day, the Infobox templates will be stored on Wikidata. For this reason, any intelligence in the CXT – if there is one – has no need to learn how to fit and transfer the information into the destination template.

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

Horizon Sunset, what do you mean when you say that you couldn't "save" the translation? Did you press the "Publish" button? Which message did you see?

Horizon Sunset (talkcontribs)

I did not translate the whole article so I did not publish my translation.

I mean my draft could not be saved automatically.

Horizon Sunset (talkcontribs)

However, this problem was solved.

I copied my translation and deleted it, and then I opened a new page and pasted my translation on it.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Do not forget to import the revision history to meet the creative commons licens requirements.

When translating to Bulgarian and want to mark missing link, the text

"Отбележете страницата като липсваща с червена препратка, за да насърчите нейното създаване." (mark as missing with red ....)

is so big that it moves down

"Отбележете като липсваща" (mark as missing)

so much that it get covered by

"Препратка към друга страница" (link to other page)

And I can't mark a link as missing. I'm using Firefox for Ubuntu 47.0.

Click the gear button and change publishing to personal draft. When fix by replacing the reference which on the abuse blacklist.

Guten Tag,

Translation from English to Spanish works fine except for cites and notes. I click on cites and it only shows the first paragraph of the cite and I cannot edit it. And I can't edit notes.

Instead, temporary remove missing templates from the source article, start translation ans undo the temporary change in the source article.

Moroboshi (talkcontribs)

For tranlation from en.wiki to it.wiki will be best not translate at all citation template. We run a bot to translate cite book/cite web/ecc... to it.wiki equivalent, would be best to have an option to leave the template untouched instead to half translate /half delete them

Error in Translation of Malayalam page to English

4
Jinoytommanjaly (talkcontribs)

I can't translate page using Translator tool in wiki from Malayalam (ml) to English (en). Error showing while publishing the page.

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

You have not reached 500 edits in the English Wikipedia.

Jinoytommanjaly (talkcontribs)

No. It's that the reason..?

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Yes, just have some edits or apply for the user rights in the EN:WP. At the moment the CXT is restricted to users with least 500 edits.
