We need Community portal under 'navigation' in the left sidebar to welcome new contributors to the wiki and help veterans alike connect. It does not need to be pretty, just simple and functional. Once it is, I will put in under 'navigation' in the left sidebar. Thanks for you help. --Rogerhc 21:59, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, good idea. I have moved the page with the correct typography. ~ Seb35 07:29, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Community portal (sentense case) is better for page names (and page header names, too) on the web. Community Portal harkens to old fashioned or at least conservative print media title case. It is not exactly incorrect, just not as good on the web as Community portal. Opinions are apt to vary on this point especially as many of us were trained in highschool and college, before the web reinvented publishing, what "Title Case Is". We may want to discuss this matter on Project:Good page name. I welcome everyone's thoughts there. --Rogerhc 03:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge Communication into Community portal?[edit]

Should we merge Communication into Community portal?

  • No, of course. The communication page is part of the fundamental introduction, therefore for readers who are looking for general information, not for users who look for the community who's actually working on this site. --:Bdk: 15:45, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you are thinking in terms of the official Contact page on more officially organization owned, coded, and written websites you may find that MediaWiki.org has no such official organization attached to it to "contact", other than http://wikimediafoundation.org. This is because MediaWiki.org is intentionally more a community's property than any given organization's property (the foundation wants the community to create, "own" and operate it). And that is because it is an open source project not only of computer code, but of content. This is an odd beast, this community that comes together through this software. How do you "contact" it without contacting it - the community? Contact belongs in Community portal on this beast.--Rogerhc 05:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
You still haven't defined the community... :) --HappyDog 17:04, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
