Introduced in version: 1.2.0
Removed in version: still in use
Allowed values: (boolean)
Default value: false
Other settings: Alphabetical | By function

Details[edit]

If this is set on, all future revisions will be compressed on page save, but only if zlib support is available and enabled in PHP.

We can also compress text in the old revisions; for this, use the script compressOld.phpManual:compressOld.php located in directory /maintenance/storage. Any compressed revisions will be decompressed on load regardless of this setting but will not be readable at all if zlib support is not available.

Note[edit]

Once you enable $wgCompressRevisions, the compressed texts will no longer be searchable/replaceable via SQL scripts. This means any extension require SQL search/replace will not able to work. If you want these extension work, try to run CompressOld.phpManual:CompressOld.php periodically instead of enable $wgCompressRevisions.
