Sorting Dates

I created a table that I would like to sort:
| IP | Port | Status | Banner | Scanned |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10.89.112.0 | TCP 54 | Closed | 2016-05-01 15:08:15 | |
| 10.89.12.10 | TCP 50 | Filtered | 2000-01-01 10:01:56 | |
| 10.9.112.10 | TCP 53 | Open | Windows XP | 2016-05-01 01:59:13 |
| 10.15.5.15 | UDP 12 | Filtered | 2000-01-01 15:14:01 |
All the columns sort just fine, except for the Scanned column with the dates. Clicking the sort button for the column doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? Jer Hughes (talk) 14:01, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Dummy editing multiple pages

Hello. I need to dummy edit a list of pages, so that they update Special:IndexPages. Is there an existing script for this so I can use it with edit.php? Reception123 (talk) 19:26, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- Adding new lines to the end of page count as null edits. Shouldn't that be possible through edit.php? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 21:02, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, but I need to be able to edit multiple articles at the same time (the list is large, so it would take a lot doing it manually), therefore I wonder if someone made a script for this, or if there's another way. Reception123 (talk) 06:32, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Shouldn't that be possible through Extension:Replace Text or Extension:MassEditRegex? Although, it would leave an entry on the page history.
- There is one relevant script, How to add content to all pages in a mediawiki?, but getting this to work might be more work than it's worth.
- Additionally, don't know much about Extension:Proofread Page so can't be sure of this, but maybe it's possible to get your desired result by using API:Purge with the

Upgrading from 1.26.2
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Somehow, my sites have dropped way below the level of "supported" versions. They are both 1.26.2.
I suspect attempting a direct, manual upgrade to 1.29 with fail. Is there a recommended upgrade path I should follow? The server OS, PHP and MySQL are already up to date. Mediawiki just fell through the cracks. Sakshale (talk) 20:48, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there!
- A direct upgrade to 1.29 in fact is possible. The supported versions of PHP and MySQL are listed on page compatibility. The most important thing is - obviously - that you have a working backup in case things go wrong. The details on how to upgrade are on page upgrading.
- In case of any questions do not hesitate to ask here! 91.52.183.76 (talk) 21:17, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Only Allow User to Edit Their User Page
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Is it possible to restrict edits to a user page to just that user? (And possibly admin too.) I can see I can prevent editing a full namespace, and I can restrict access to edit an article, but how can I prevent everyone from being able to edit other people's user pages? Reading them is fine, editing them is not. Jer Hughes (talk) 20:51, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- If only other people's user pages are to be restricted from editing, then you can use Extension:AbuseFilter for this. Through this, rules can be defined for this purpose.
- See relevant rules defined at:
Special:ListFiles Search not working
Hi,
The search function in my Special:ListFiles does not work.
I found this old topic for an older version of media wiki. Similar issue though, omitting the 1st character returns correct results. Leaving the 1st character returns no results. Any ideas?

MediaWiki formating for screen resolution & image percentage
Hello,
1)
I have two questions. I optimized a page on a wiki to suit the screen resolution of my monitor which is 1920x1080. How can I adapt this page to suit majority of screen resolutions? Is there anyway to achieve this without CSS 3 Media Queries? If so, how would I approach this?
2) I have this line of code and would like to change the image size to a percentage. How would I do this? No matter what percentage I change it to, the image stays the same size.

System message during creation a page
I have following problem at MW 1.29.1 - there is a system error sometimes:
Invalid title
The requested page title contains invalid characters: "% D0".
In Russian it looks so:
Недопустимое название
Запрашиваемое название страницы содержит недопустимые символы: «%D0».
Return to the Main Page page.
This message I have in following cases:
- If I want to create a new article and give a name to a new page at link bar of the browser and accordingly the system suggests creating this page by saying "create a page with that name." I click on the link and than I have this message.
- The same situation when creating a redirect from one page to another

Merci de votre aide,.

Remove "Reason" field from account creation page
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I have a private wiki for work. Nobody can view the wiki content unless signed in, and existing employees create accounts for new employees. It works fine, except, when an existing employee creates a new account it asks for "Reason". Not only is it not necessary for us, but it kind of takes away from the collaborative nature of the project. Is there a way to remove the question? Jer Hughes (talk) 18:20, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Can't you simply left it blank? Anyway you can probably hide it with some CSS code that you can put on MediaWiki:Common.css Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:25, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
- The field is not required and so it can be left blank. But again, "Not only is it not necessary for us, but it kind of takes away from the collaborative nature of the project. Is there a way to remove the question?". I was hoping for something other than just ignore it.
- It can't be removed with CSS. The text looks like this:
- <label for="wpReason">Reason</label><input id="wpReason" name="reason" size="20" class="loginText mw-ui-input" placeholder="Why you are creating another account" tabindex="6"/>
#userloginForm label[for=wpReason], #userloginForm input#wpReason {
display: none;
}
Cannot Login

I installed mediawiki twice on RHEL 7.3 twice. Both times it worked fine for a few months and then all of a sudden no one can log in. Did the debug logs and looked through them with no errors. Even found a line saying that authentication was accepted - but after you log in, it sends you back to the page you were on not logged in. No errors, no problems, just can't log in. No idea if anyone will read this and help, but I'm out of options. Thanks. 2600:8800:2801:9A00:B11A:22BB:C0E9:EC5D (talk) 23:03, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Be sure it's not a cache problem (you return to the same page after login and maybe you're receiving the page before you were logged in). You can discard this if accessing Special:MyPage on your wiki doesn't give your user page.
- Did anything change recently like the IP address, URL, http/https or path of the wiki? Login cookies are sometimes bound to a specific path, etc and if changed may cause them to not be set properly on the browser.
- You can check cookies with the browser's developer console (Hit the F12 key), in a section where you can see all page requests. Check the headers (request and response) of the first request of each page load, look for the cookie (the one with the session id). When logging in you should see the server sends a Set-Cookie header, after that, on next requests the browser should send back the same cookie, and the server shouldn't send back another session Set-Cookie. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:24, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
- Looks like cookies are not being set properly. Nothing has change in the way of URL/IP or anything between the time it worked with no problems to how it doesn't work now.
- I found this link (To pic:T75clo z7981b8i92) and tried session.referer_check and save_path. Those ini sets are working and now I have the "There seems to be a problem with your login session; ... " message.
- I noticed some new stuff in the debug logs - the session id changes between page loads which would make me think the cookies are not being saved correctly. I also see some of these errors now: "data dirty due to dirty()" - any ideas? Thanks for the help. 2600:8800:2801:9A00:B11A:22BB:C0E9:EC5D (talk) 22:45, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

- When I change the URL parameters so that the modules from "flow" no longer are part of the URL, then I do get styles displayed.
- It seems like when you activate the Flow stuff, it removes or overwrites the registered Ressource Loader modules.
- Are you maybe using an incompatible version of Flow (or how it is called now)?
- I think you should be using the version of Flow (and not Structured Discussions). Flow should be working, if you use the Flow version for MediaWiki 1.29. 2003:CC:ABDD:6000:6012:5D12:667A:E78E (talk) 23:47, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Cambiar URL de mi wiki
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
GRACIAS. Remy170 (talk) 21:36, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
- I think you are basically looking for $wgServer, which you can change in LocalSettings.php. This will change the URLs, which MediaWiki creates. Jörgi123 (talk) 00:22, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- I got to change the URL modifying the hosts file and then editing the $wgServer, however, I think that it only changes the appearance of the link because I still cannot enter from another device (in this case, my cell phone).
- Thanks for answering! Remy170 (talk) 00:58, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- The links should not point to localhost, but to some kind of URL or IP. If this is the case, then configuration of MediaWiki is fine. The next step then is to make sure that this URL or IP is reachable via your network so that another device can reach it. 2003:CC:ABDD:6000:C083:9F7E:B7FC:92A9 (talk) 10:20, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:22, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

From 1.18 to 1.29.1 - PHP 5.3.. to 7.n and MySQL Win7
Is this as simple as this: add a new PHP directory, and unpack the new version... then register and change in ISS?
Or do I need to do some upgrades to the current Wiki also, current Wiki version is 1.18.0, so should I migrate in stages?
After that can I simply upgrade MySQL to the latest version - I Use MYSQL Workbench - but will upgrading the workbench upgrade the SQL version also? https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/
Asset ...--85.204.137.123 12:23, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there!
- The MySQL Workbench program is not the same as the MySQL version of your MySQL server. Upgrading MySQL Workbench will not change anything on the server. Supported MySQL server versions are listed on page compatibility. Should your MySQL server version be too old, you will have to update the MySQL server.
- For the MediaWiki upgrade, you will have to keep certain files and folders from the old installation and you will have to update the database.
- And most importantly: You have to make sure that you are having a working backup before you start the upgrade.
- A complete guide is on page upgrading! 2003:CC:ABDD:6000:90D8:DCA7:313B:2C1D (talk) 14:54, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Displaying Editable Contact Information
Greetings, MediaWiki community,
I am building a wiki for which I would like to display contact information (name, email, phone number, etc.) that will display as part of the skin and can easily be changed by an inexperienced user. My strategy to do so has been to create an extension that would build a special page to hold the information (similar to the Sidebar special page), editable only to administrators.
Unfortunately, I am very new to MediaWiki, and the documentation on the subject seems fragmented at best. My main stumbling blocks are: understanding how to obtain and parse the text of the special page, and passing the parsed data to the skin, so that it can display the contact info on every page. I have looked, and there do not appear to be any preexisting extensions for this sort of functionality. Any thoughts? JanusIratus (talk) 21:17, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- Normally you would do this by making a custom skin with information. Or possibly use a hook to add it (or just use an existing i18n message).
- Most people just use mediawiki namespace pages to allow editing, but special page is an option if you want it to be extra user friendly Bawolff (talk) 09:54, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

- Be sure you're on the right wiki. Even if you came from another wiki using MediaWiki software, each wiki has its own account database, so the user and password from one wiki doesn't work on another wiki, unless they're used a unified login system or similar. How to create a custom warning message?
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I spend now hours to find a way to create a simple warning message after editing and saving a page. Something similar like when you save a page and it tells me «Your edit has been saved» in a green box. It should just be in a different colour (e.g orange, not green). Where can I find documentation about it?

- Thanks, but this is the answer to something else.
- I am in a MediaWiki Hook (PageContentSave). If there is an error that my script detects, how can I report it back to the user? Pulsargranular (talk) 16:54, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Manual:Hooks/PageContentSave already provides an example. However, you can't display the error message in a box similar to the «Your edit has been saved». Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 17:24, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Weird. I do exactly as shown in the example, but no message appears after saving the document. I checked the code gets executed.
- $status->fatal(new RawMessage("Your Error Message Here!"));
- does not print anything at all. Pulsargranular (talk) 13:42, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Looking at the code, you should return false from that function in order to cancel the save. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 14:50, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you very, very much. That helped! And thank you correcting the example. It is IMHO not very intuitive to set a status to fatal AND returning false. Anyways, thanks a lot, you made my day! Pulsargranular (talk) 15:05, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Can't login to my admin account
Whenever I try to login I get this message:
"There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been cancelled as a precaution against session hijacking. Go back to the previous page, reload that page and then try again."
I'm using:
MediaWiki 1.29.1
PHP 5.6.32
MySQL 5.7
This is my website. I don't use caching. Alex Swak (talk) 18:05, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
- Try setting $wgSessionCacheType = CACHE_DB;

- I tried setting $wgSessionCacheType to every possible value. Didn't work. Alex Swak (talk) 13:10, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Did you manage to resolve this as I'm having the same issue when I recently restored a DB? I also then upgraded the site in a hope it would help but still no luck unfortunately AdamLacey (talk) 10:11, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
- Ignore me! I discovered it was because I had set the site to read only and then restored a DB after that!
- I just commented out "$wgReadOnly = 'message'" and then it woked AdamLacey (talk) 10:15, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Infobox
Bonjour,
wfLoadExtension( 'ParserFunctions' );
wfLoadExtension( 'WikiEditor' );
wfLoadExtension( 'InputBox' );
require_once "$IP/extensions/Scribunto/Scribunto.php";
$wgScribuntoDefaultEngine = 'luastandalone';
$wgUseInstantCommons = true;

- For infoboxes, have you already followed all the instructions at Manual:Importing Wikipedia infoboxes tutorial? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 05:27, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, line to line and nothing works.

Migrate $revision->getText() code
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
In an older extension I'd like to use it attempts to get to text of an article using:
$revision = Revision::newFromTitle($title); return self::transform($revision->getText());
With $title being the title of the article.
But getText() is depreciated and no longer works. I'm trying to migrate the code, which says to use this:
$content = $revision->getContent(Revision::FOR_THIS_USER, $user); $text = ContentHandler::getContentText($content);
But I don't understand what FOR_THIS_USER and $user is.
I tried updating my code to variations of the following, but I get a "Fatal error: Call to a member function getContent() on null".
$content = $revision->getContent($title); return ContentHandler::getContentText($content);
How do I get the content of an article in an extension? Jer Hughes (talk) 02:17, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Here is my environment for MW 1.28.1

| PHP | 7.0.20-1~dotdeb+8.2 (fpm-fcgi) |
| MySQL | 5.5.58-0+deb8u1-log |
| ICU | 52.1 |
| Lua | 5.1.5 |
I get the newest MW from https://releases.wikimedia.org/mediawiki/1.29/mediawiki-1.29.1.tar.gz, tar xvzf it. change soft link for running wiki from mediawiki-1.28.1 folder to mediawiki-1.29.1 folder.
Then everything dead. All browser return white screen with 500 error code.
I tried
$wgShowExceptionDetails = true;
$wgShowSQLErrors = true;
$wgShowDBErrorBacktrace = true;
$wgDebugDumpSql = true;
$wgUseSquid = false;
$wgDebugToolbar = true;
then nothing shows up in browser, neither php error log nor nginx error log. How can I debug this?
I tried to rename LocalSettings.php to LocalSettings.php-close, then it changed to "MediaWiki 1.28.1 LocalSettings.php not found." It suppose to be 1.29 but it showing 1.28???? why???? Is there anything wrong with the tar.gz file?
I do tried the web installer, which generate a new LocalSettings.php file. However, once I put the LocalSettings.php file in folder. my website turn into white screen without any error message again. Deletedaccount4567435 (talk) 02:22, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

DomainException on uploading images
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi everyone,
I just made a fresh mediawiki installation. Sadly on every attempt of uploading image this error happens:
[66986acc021c07ee79d45da4] 2017-11-10 14:46:46: Krytyczny wyjątek typu "DomainException"
translated to english it's probably like:
[66986acc021c07ee79d45da4] 2017-11-10 14:46:46: Critical exception of type "DomainException"
The images/ folder has proper permission (755) and proper file ownership. I'm completely out of ideas as this exception message is just useless... 5.60.23.148 (talk) 14:52, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- Set $wgShowExceptionDetails to true to have a more detailed error message. See also Manual:How to debug. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:19, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

| MediaWiki | 1.12.0 |
| PHP | 5.2.12 (cgi-fcgi) |
| MySQL | 5.7.17-log |
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to create a new category for articles which are now and will be archived in the future. Currently we have an 'Application List' category which lists all of our LIVE applications in alphabetical order, also has links on how to create and amend articles following a pre-set template.
The Applications List category also lists all of our redundant articles under the ' ^ ' symbol.
I've been tasked to create a new link, within the existing Applications List article, to a new category called 'Archived Applications' to essentially remove all of the archived articles under the '^' symbol. This is to tidy up the Applications List and hopefully so we can archive articles relating to decommissioned applications better.
How do I create a category within a category?
What source code would I use to move redundant articles to this new 'Archived Applications' category and have them listed alphabetically? i.e. At the moment each application article is categorised using the following code:
[[category:application]]
Once this new category is created, would it just be a matter of editing each redundant article in the following way:
[[Category:A|Archived Application]]
I hope you can help and I hope this makes sense

- Yes, you can add the category link syntax into a category page so it becomes "categorized" under that category. Try it yourself! Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ciencia Al Poder,
- Thanks for your help and quick reply
- I'll give this a go and see how I get on

Disable Password Changing/Resetting
I'm running MediaWiki 1.29.1, how do I disable the forgot password links on the login page and password change boxes? My MediaWiki authenticates against an Active Directory server, so these functions just cause confusion. Acascianelli (talk) 15:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Installing 1.29.1 on raspberry PI, can't connect to database
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi,
I am trying to installing mediawiki 1.29.1 on a raspberry PI using Raspbian stretch by following these instructions
Manual:Running MediaWiki on Debian or Ubuntu
I get to this point
Connect to database
and keep getting the error
Cannot access the database: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (0.0.0.0).
Check the host, username and password and try again.
I have had no errors up to this point, I have tried entering various values for
database host, name, prefix, username and password.
I am assuming that database name and prefix do not matter and the problem is host, username and password.
If I have logged into my PI is 0.0.0.0 okay for localhost?
Is username root okay?
I am convinced I am entering the password I created earlier on.
I have seen one similar question that was answered 3 years ago and the solution seemed to relate to not having a LocalSettins.php file
In the installation instructions I have not been prompted to create one yet, I believe that later on I should be prompted to download one.
After all of this explanation my question is, " do I need to create a LocalSettings.php file now?
thanks
Steve Windy54 (talk) 18:58, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Steve!
- In your error message, the IP address 0.0.0.0 looks strange. For localhost it should be 127.0.0.1.
- If you have MySQL on your system, you can use the mysql executable to try logging in from there. That has the advantage that you do not have MediaWiki in between and you can just check that you can access the database correctly. Once you got that working, you can just use exactly the same data for MediaWiki. 2003:CC:ABC5:AC00:71D7:FD1D:C6AD:7F83 (talk) 22:04, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- I think that is going to help, I cant login as root so I am going to start again and make sure the password is correct. Also, when I try and complete the initialisation through chrome it might be trying to log me in as user pi which has not been added to the database.
- I will investigate further and post back when I have sorted it.
- thanks for the response Windy54 (talk) 09:55, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- After following the previous advice I came to the conclusion it is something to so with access rights and have got a vague memory of something changing in Raspbian Stretch.
- I reverted to Jessie and have managed to install mediawiki, at some point I will investigate further and try it on JESSIE 82.0.132.113 (talk) 16:31, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Issue in authentication
Hi team,
We are using a Mediawiki product version 1.23.5 and configured authentication, recently we have changed ADFS certificate and after that site is not browsing. I found private key of the certificate is configured in 2 files saml20-sp-remote.php and saml20-idp-remote.php under simplesamlphp - Metadata and Metadata-template folder. The private keys in each of this folder are different. Private key for files under Metadata folder is matching to our ADFS certificate but not for files under Metadata-template.
We tried all possibilities to configure it but no luck. Kindly help us in understand and resolving our issue.
Our certificate is expire in few days and we are in high risk, any help is appreciated.
With Regards
Punith Kumar N Punith29 (talk) 08:01, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- If I read correctly, you're using simple saml authentication, which is not related to MediaWiki, but to all PHP applications. Maybe you'd get more support from a simple saml support forum or read the documentation at https://simplesamlphp.org/docs/stable/ Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:57, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

ULS trigger doesn't work
Describing the problem
@Ciencia Al Poder I'm trying to trigger the Universal Language Selector (ULS) button on the top of my wiki page: https://wiki.buntowaf.tk/w/index.php/Main_Page.

NGINX version of Apache 404 handler
Regarding extension Proofread Page, Extension:Proofread Page#Thumbnailing, is there an NGINX version for " Apache 404 handler to Wikimedia's thumb-handler" ? Reception123 (talk) 16:07, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

- Yes Reception123 (talk) 16:44, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- It should just be using the error_page directive:
error_page 404 /w/extensions/upload-scripts/404.php;
- Feel free to add the missing nginx configuration to the extension page! 2003:CC:ABD7:9900:DD9:42EA:ECF9:C185 (talk) 18:43, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Style MediaWiki
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
When it comes down to styling an individual page on the Wiki, can this be achieved by using: MediaWiki:Common.css
Eg, I have a page called: Home
Can I style this on the Common.css?
Is there a better alternatives? Harry7651 (talk) 09:55, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it is possible to use MediaWiki:Common.css to style single pages. Alternatively, if the styles you are going to add should only be valid for one single skin (as opposed to for all skins as it is on MediaWiki:Common.css), you might want to put them onto e.g. MediaWiki:Vector.css for them to be valid for the Vector skin.
- At its body tag, each page has a number of classes and you can use them to make styles only be applied to a single page. E.g. the page "Home" has the classes "ns-subject" because it's in the subject namespace and "page-Home" because "Home" is it's page name. So these classes can be used to only address this single page. 2003:CC:ABE3:200:586D:39EC:F884:3C5D (talk) 11:23, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

High cpu and ram usage on wikimedia server

Hello,
TL;DR: How to set timeout on the mySQL from the wiki?
Longer explanation:
Every now or themy wikimedia stop working, after some hours of debugging I realise that when google starts to crawl my wiki, it's make a storm and there are more then 100 CGI processes that runs without being terminated.
Every process is about 30 MB but so many kllls the ram and when it's happends the CPU raise too.
When I opened the mySql manager I was able to see that most there are also 100+ open conecctions on sleeping state.
I tried to terminated them but it wasn't release the processes on the Wiki server.
Is here a way to control the timeout so the CGI process will be closed after a minute or to to close the mySql connection after a minute?
Is there a way too deeply debug what wxactly goes wrong? 79.178.3.212 (talk) 14:23, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- The problem is not mysql not closing connections, but PHP not closing its instances.
- AFAIK, running PHP as CGI should have a PHP process open all the time, which gets recycled periodically (after X requests). Maybe the server is losing connection with the PHP process somehow and opens a new one, leaving the old process open. You should check error logs or windows event viewer for abnormal PHP errors that leave orphaned PHP processes. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:28, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

- @Ciencia Al Poder
- Ok,
- I figured it was two bug that was limit the system, so when google start to crawl it made DDoS.
- I solved it by do two steps.
- Set limitation InstanceMaxRequests PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS, to 80 [EVEN THOUGH THE RECCOMENDATION IS 8 PER CPU CORE ON IIS IT MUST BE HIGHER!]. - That solved the cpu and ram issue.
- I changed the aplication pool user and the websites auth to be the same user - that stopped the random error 500.
- I hope it would help someone in the future.
- Thanks again for your directions. ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 00:31, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
How to transclude userpage onto other wikipedia?

- I was reading that there are something called https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgEnableScaryTranscluding plus I would expect such function to work because otherwise it would be too cumbersome to update babel on every wiki and thus it would be too cumbersome for CLL to even make sense C933103 (talk) 15:27, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

- Actually, it will be more of a hard coding if I directly put the URL for Help.
- I want to change the target URL of the specific keyword that is being used for Help..
- Could you pls let me know how can I do that?
- Example:
- * navigation
- ** mainpage|mainpage
- I want to change the target URL of above mainpage but don't wanna replace it with URL..
- If there is no alternative I can go with the above suggested idea Jprakash402 (talk) 13:31, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

- Does URL hard coding results in any translation related issues? Jprakash402 (talk) 14:15, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- See the examples at Manual:Interface/Sidebar#Links for the different ways links can be added to the sidebar. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 14:39, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- You make something like ** mainpage-url|main page
- And then you can add the destination to MediaWiki:Mainpage-url, for instance "Project:Main page"
- See also Manual:Interface/Sidebar. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talk • contribs) 14:43, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Modified system messages not displaying for logged in users

Some of the users on my wiki are unable to see modified system messages. This only affects some users, not all. If an affected user logs out they see the correct version of the messages. When they log in, they see the default message. I've looked for any commonality in the users who are affected (account type), but can't find anything. Can anyone suggest a cause or better yet a fix?
I'm using MW 1.27.0. All the message have been modified on the Special:AllMessages page.
Thanks. Mg169706 (talk) 15:06, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- They have probably set a different language to the default wiki's language. Such as using en-gb, instead of en. In which case you'd also have to modify the /en-gb subpage for that message for them to see the changes. 121.219.118.25 (talk) 06:42, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- That would make sense. I just checked the preferences table where users had changed the language option. Sure enough, everyone who was complaining had selected a different language.
- Thanks for the pointer! :) Mg169706 (talk) 14:18, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
Importing dump.xml
Hi,
I'm having issues importing a dump that I've taken from using the dumpBackup.php script.
When I try and import the dump.xml file into a freshly installed wiki, I'm having issues importing. I get the error below. Both instances are running the latest LTS (1.27). I'm running the import using the admin account.
Import failed: Loss of session data. You might have been logged out. Please verify that you're still logged in and try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in, and check that your browser allows cookies from this site.
The reason why I'm doing this export/import is that I'm trying to migrate content from an install using Sqlite onto another install using MySQL.
Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. 87.198.212.130 (talk) 15:50, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Switch from PMWiki to MediaWiki w/out full backup
I have a wiki page where I was using PMWiki and am switching to MediaWiki (ver 1.26.3) through my new webhost (Dreamhost). For a cascade of reasons involving my idiot former webhost's mismanagement of the simplest things and a fire in my office, I only have the uploads (images) folder and the wiki.d folder left. Is there a way to import the content of the pages in the wiki.d folder into MediaWiki without having to recreate everything (especially markup) by hand?

Is there a way to make the TOC hidden by default?
#toc ul{
display:none;
}I don't mean to get rid of it. I would refer that TOCs were displayed hidden with the show link being used to expand them. I've poked around through the manual and faq, but I haven't found anything about that. I guess another way to word this (which I've also searched for) is to have TOCs displayed collapsed by default, and opened by the viewer when desired. I do not want to use __NOTOC__. I want the TOC to be available, just not taking up the entire page before the article begins.
I could swear I saw this at Wikipedia somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Txantimedia (talk) 02:17, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- I don’t have a complete answer but there is Manual:Table of contents where possibly there is a link to your desired feature. For Wikipedia, when you close the TOC, it is saved (in a cookie) and the next TOCs are then closed (well, it’s JavaScript, so it is closing when you open the page); when you re-open the TOC, it will then appear opened, etc. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 07:51, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Seb35. I was not aware of the cookie setting. That would explain why I've seen it collapsed before. I looked through the Manual and the FAQ several times and didn't find the answer. I also found a template Template:TOC hidden, but it has no documentation, and the template code is beyond confusing.
- The cookie info is useful.
- #toc ul{
- display.none;
- }
- Will permanently hide the TOC. That is NOT what I want. Txantimedia (talk) 18:18, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- Nope, the CSS won't permanently hide the table of contents, a user can still click the show / hide link to show it. 197.218.92.17 (talk) 18:21, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- I put that code in MediaWiki:Common.css, and it didn't do anything. I put it in my personal common.css, and it didn't do anything. Perhaps I'm missing something?

- I tried the CSS 197 gave, it works mostly but the word 'show' (or 'hide') is not always consistent with the real state.
- If it does not work after you modified MediaWiki:Common.css, perhaps you need to force a hard refresh of the browser (Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+R depending on the browser). ~ Seb35 [^_^] 21:12, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Setting a new protection level and changing the order

In regularly, $wgRestrictionLevels have the default: <code>array( <nowiki>''</nowiki>, 'autoconfirmed', 'sysop' )</code> and I want to make a new protection level that her name is: 'editpresenter'; That need to be like: <code>array( <nowiki>''</nowiki>, 'autoconfirmed', 'editpresenter', 'sysop' )</code>. I mean that the new protection level that will be before the 'sysop' protection level and will be after 'autoconfirmed' protection level.
Which code I need to do that it will work like it? Thanks for answers.

- If I understand the query correctly, you are looking for a way to protect specific pages for specific user groups.
- For such a purpose, you will need to make use of Category:Page specific user rights extensions.
- Note that, "MediaWiki was not written to provide per-page access restrictions, and almost all hacks or patches promising to add them will likely have flaws somewhere..."
- Among the choices, Extension:Lockdown appears to be the most stable. Through this extension, you can allow specific usergroups to have access to specific namespaces. Customised protection for individual pages is not available through this extension, namespaces will have to be used for such a purpose.
- For other options check out, Extension:Restrict access by category and group. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 10:44, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

What approach to use for Active Directory login?
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I have been going around in circles with trying to get this to work. I had installed 1.29.1 then I read that active directory works better with 1.26.3. Extension:LDAP Authentication
So I removed 1.29.1 and downloaded and setup 1.26.3. So I go to setup the ldap options and I see that I have to use AuthPlugin so I go to this site AuthPlugin where it says it is deprecated and for backwards compatibility up to version 1.27 and to use Manual:SessionManager and AuthManager.
What is the recommended approach to use where I can have users login with their active directory credentials and I can add them to a group to just be able to edit?
Thank you PSIDWiki (talk) 19:00, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- You're right that the situation is confusing right now.
- The version for 1.29.x may work depending on your needs or not. Try it and then ask for help here if you run into problems.
- If it fails and you need this immediately, go with 1.26.x and Extension:LDAP Authentication since that will most likely work.
- Finally, we are working on a replacement for the LDAP authentication. You can follow our progress: LDAP hub. ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 16:00, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Mark,
- Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to use 1.26.x since I have to have it completed by today.
- I'm running this on
- MediaWiki 1.26.3
- IIS 8.5
- php 7.0 (I think this needs to change since I'm using 1.26.3)
- mySQL 5.5.57
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- Here is what I have in LocalSettings.php for connecting to Active Directory:
- require_once( "$IP/extensions/LdapAuthentication/LdapAuthentication.php" );
- $wgAuth = new LdapAuthenticationPlugin();
- $wgLDAPDomainNames = array( "TMP" );
- $wgLDAPServerNames = array( "TMP" => "tmp01.ab.cde.fghi.edu" );
- $wgLDAPSearchStrings = array( "TMP" => "TMP\\USER-NAME" );
- $wgLDAPEncryptionType = array( "TMP" => "tls" );
- $wgLDAPUseLocal = false;
- $wgMinimalPasswordLength = 1;
- $wgLDAPBaseDNs = array( "TMP" => "dc=tmp01,dc=ab,dc=cde,dc=fghi,dc=edu" );
- $wgLDAPSearchAttributes = array( "TMP" => "sAMAccountName" );
- $wgLDAPRetrievePrefs = array( "TMP" => "true" );
- $wgLDAPPreferences = array('TMP' => array( 'email' => 'mail','realname' => 'displayname'));
- $wgLDAPDebug = 3; //for debugging LDAP
- $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; //for debugging MediaWiki
- $wgDebugLogFile = "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\NewWiki\w\debug.log" ;
- $wgDebugLogGroups["ldap"] = "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\NewWiki\w\debugldap.log" ;
- $wgLDAPProxyAgent = array(
- 'TMP' => 'cn=TMP\userLDAP,dc=tmp01,dc=ab,dc=cde,dc=fghi,dc=edu',
- );
- $wgLDAPProxyAgentPassword = array(
- 'TMP' => 'tmpLDAPpassword',
- );
- I know that the ldap server has a certificate and it is not self signed but from a third party. Do I still need to use openssl and create a cert file? If so where do I put this file in a windows server 2012 computer? Should I use SSL?
- All I want to do is have my users use their current login information to log into my MediaWiki setup and just allow them to edit. I need to give myself and another user top level control. Anyone else who uses the site will just be a user and just viewing the wiki.
- Thank you again for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.l PSIDWiki (talk) 12:56, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Scribunto and Infobox
Hi,
To create and use an Infobox, it seems we need to install Scribunto but not only.
The manual lists a great number of things to install and add in the LocalSetting.php file, some mandatory, some optionnal but "strongly" recommanded.
Why is it so complicated to create a simple infobox on the righ-top side of a page ?
Is there a simple way to create and use an Infobox ? Pacha35 (talk) 23:10, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- What makes you think that you "need to install Scribunto but not only"?
- See Help:Templates or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:A_quick_guide_to_templates Malyacko (talk) 00:47, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- I am not speaking about "template" but about "Infobox", specific frameworks in the right-top corner of a page.
- To create an Infobox we need a lot of things and first to use Scribunto extension as it's explained here :

Machine-Translation Extensions

Hi all,
Looking for a machine-language extension that I can add to an internal Wiki that would allow machine translation. From what I can see, I see an unsupported extension here: Extension:Live Translate that seems to be the easiest, but we can also use http://wiki.apertium.org.
Are there others that you might suggest that can fit the task? My needs are pretty much to get the translation available, knowing that there will be issues with the quality of that translation.
Thank you. PaleoIsh (talk) 15:04, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Request for comments on my articles for a corporate intranet wiki
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I'm in the process of putting together a series of articles aimed at a corporate intranet (I've seen a fair few in my time and I am a consultant for various things for a lot of companies - my personal focus is really as a Linux sysadmin and IT security in general). The end goal is on end-to-end lifecycle management of a wiki (hence why I cover OS installation) and reproducibility, to get a useful MW up and running quickly and safely in a largely Windows/AD world.
I have made this lot my company's official wiki installation documentation, hence it will be kept up to date and not be left to gather dust (we are ISO 9000/27000 accredited - we do docs!). This is a bit of an experiment but I think it could work well - the whole point of a wiki is not simply shouting into the void. I could have kept these articles hidden away on my wiki or share and I'd rather share.
- I have made some decisions and I am open to criticism of them
- Could someone tell me where this lot might be best placed on MW
- Requests for features
Either post here or for more involved discussions, dump that on the Discussion Page for the root article. Feature requests - put them directly into the top level page under "Status"
The articles are currently here: User:Gerdesj/Intranet (I'll update this link when they move)
Cheers

- I've just done a quick read through the CentralAuth doc and it looks pretty OS agnostic. In general "/" in Unix land translates to "C:\" in Windows land (not really true but good enough for now). The bits that describe running "$ mysql" should also work in Windows by running mysql from a cmd prompt. I think that if you are running "XAMP" then you are actually using MariaDB and not MySQL (both are named after Monty's daughters and both of them will work here) Gerdesj (talk) 02:02, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

How can I control the spacing between bullets in a bullet list - making it smaller or bigger? YYwiki (talk) 13:06, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- Use the following in your Mediawiki:Common.css if you want to change the spacing for all bullet points,To change only for some bullet points, include the following in your Mediawiki:Common.css,
ul > li { padding-left: 50px; }and then when needed, include the bullet points inside a div element with newbp class. Extension snapshots for 1.27 outdated?
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I currently update my wiki's extension. I am on MediaWiki 1.27.4.
Almost all of the snapshots I download are below the current version of that extension.
For example the current version of Extension:MyVariables is 3.4.0. The snapshot for MediaWiki 1.27 is 3.3.0. Is this meant to be like this? Stefahn (talk) 10:45, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Stefan!
- The version displayed on the extension page should always be the newest version available. In case of MyVariables, this is 3.4.0. For the older 1.27 branch however, the latest version in fact is 3.3.0, see https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-MyVariables/blob/REL1_27/MyVariables.php
- You might try the newer version 3.4.0, but note that it can contain changes, which are not compatible with MediaWiki 1.27. In fact, for 1.27, you should use the version for 1.27, which in case of this extension is version 3.3.0. Jörgi123 (talk) 13:19, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- I just checked the changes in this extension and in fact you should be able to use the version for MediaWiki 1.30 and even the version from master. There have not been any relevant changes concerning MediaWiki 1.27 as far as I can tell. Jörgi123 (talk) 13:24, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your helpful reply.
- It would be great if there was an automatic check that tells us if the newest version also runs with an older MW version or if it doesn't... Stefahn (talk) 18:18, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

- You will need to run Update.php. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 11:31, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- The database table l10n_cache is missing n your database. This is the problem.
- According to Manual:Database_layout this table should already have been there, when you used MediaWiki 1.21. You might have to add this table manually by looking into the tables.sql file: https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/REL1_29/maintenance/tables.sql#L1533 2003:CC:ABE4:6400:19F2:D209:921:4DC9 (talk) 13:41, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- Update.php (or the web updater by going to mywiki.com/w/mw-config ) will add the table for you, so there is no need to add it manually.
- However, this table has been included since MediaWiki 1.16, so unless you are upgrading from pre-1.16, this means that random tables are disappearing from your db. That generally is very bad and you should figure out how that happened. Bawolff (talk) 08:23, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- But isn't update.php using the different patch files, which always contain only a small chunk of the complete table structure? Does it really also add tables, which should already have been there? Jörgi123 (talk) 16:56, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- It adds tables that should be there provided they were introduced after MediaWiki 1.5 (The update script doesn't know if the table is "missing" or if you are just upgrading from a really really old version of MediaWiki).
- So it will work for l10n_cache table. It wouldn't work for say the

One of our templates seems corrupted. We can't edit the page, even not show (yes, it exists) and so on. All this results in a time-out. Now we try to import a back-up version but also Special:Import gives a time-out.

Is there any way to block or selectively kill geo info from pictures I uploaded?
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi everyone,
I uploaded a bunch of pictures to my personal mediawiki site, then realized I forgot to wipe geocoords from them (which can be clearly seen on their metadata pages). I'm just an amateur site builder, but this presents multiple problems:
1) Even if I edit the image and upload a new version with geo info wiped, doesn't the old version remain, with its geo info?
2) How can I be sure I haven't goofed and left a geocoord across the many pictures I've uploaded? Maybe dozens or hundreds; not sure how many were screen captures, and how many from my phone.
In short, I think I am looking for a tool that will wipe and/or block any and all geocoords on any of my pictures, passively and forever more.
Does anyone know of such a thing? Thanks so much if you can help!
P.S. I am using 1.27.1 of MediaWiki, from Sept. 2016 or so. RedKnight7 (talk) 23:15, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- You need to upload a new version, and delete the old version (If you have revision deletion, you can just set the old version of the image content to be deleted and keep the rest of the history).
- You can try to get a list of such photos by doing a query on the database like
SELECT img_name from image where img_metadata like '%GPSL%'; - p.s. Edit - As RedKnight7 noted above, if you're using $wgDBPrefix, then you need to add that to the image name. Bawolff (talk) 00:02, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- For blocking uploads that contain geocoords you can implement a UploadVerifyFile hook to check metadata of the file and reject it (apparently it should be accessible from UploadBase::getImageInfo()). Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 21:02, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi everyone,
I recently took over hosting and administrating a rather large mediawiki (1.27) installation and it's set up on new hardware and a freshly installed CentOS 7.3.11.
We are running an nginx / php-fpm setup with a MariaDB-Galera database (3 node multi-master-cluster).
Everything works as intended, but our users are complaining about getting logged out every now and then. I can't seem to conclude on how often it happens, but according to some users it happens multiple times during a 30minute timeframe.
Our nginx / php installation is:

I have set session.gc_maxlifetime = 28800 (8 hrs) but that doesn't seem to affect anything.
Our sessions dir is /var/lib/php/session, but MW doesn't create any session files in that folder.
I have run a mockup session creater to see if sessions are working, and they are, but MW doesn't use that folder for some reason.
I've been scratching my head about this and I can't figure out how MW handles sessions and why users keep getting logged out.
The MW installation itself is an rsync-copy of a previous installation that didn't have this issue so I'm guessing it's due to our configuration, but I can't figure out where we've done anything wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Fazzeh (talk) 18:04, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- Make sure that MW is set up to store sessions on the local disk. Also see $wgMainCacheType where it says:

How can i import Wiki dump (*.xml) and related images and templates into my local Wiki
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I am building an local Wiki for automation test, and i have imported an dump file (*.xml) from dumps.wikimedia.org:
php importDumpphp < dumpfile.xml
php rebuildall.php
After that i can see many pages imported, but the related images and templates don't display as normal online Wiki page.
Anyone please help to overcome this stuck???
Many thanks! Kuninminh (talk) 08:51, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
- Dumps don't contain images. You'll need to download them manually. The easiest solution would be to enable InstantCommons, so your wiki fetches images automatically from WikiMedia Commons as they're needed.
- About templates, they are included in dumps (unless you have imported a dump that doesn't contain them).
- Maybe what you need is to rebuild those pages using refreshLinks.php. This often happens when the page is imported before the template, as they appear in the XML dump. Manually editing and saving those templates/mages may fix that, but refreshLinks.php will take care of that automatically. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:29, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Arabic text when editing with Visual Editing

When I try to edit my first page of my new Wikia, I do not see my previous edits for this page. Instead, I see this Arabic text:

The two right-hand weblinks on the Rhylanor Subsector maps lead to the Star Lane Subsector page instead of Sabine's.
Also, the right-hand link on the top map in labelled 'Star Lane' instead of Sabine.

I must be having fun, because time got away from me. I have two mediawiki sites that I support. One was dutifully upgraded to 1.28.2, but somehow the other one got overlooked and is sitting at 1.26.2. Looking at the varied upgrade files available, I'm not sure there is a safe route from 1.26.2 to 1.29.2.
Pointers would be most welcomed. Sakshale (talk) 06:19, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it's safe to upgrade to a more recent version directly, but always make a backup first in case something goes wrong. Just follow the upgrade manual. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:35, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
«The revision n°0 of the page X does not exist.»
Hi, I've got this error message on this page. This page was created by a spammer long ago and I removed it, but now I realize something is not clean in the database.
Do you know what kind of operation I could do to fix it ? I am on a shared host so I have difficulties with maintenance scripts (I use MaintenanceShell extension but very often it doesn't seem to work as expected). Maybe I could delete some orphaned row in the database ? But I can't guess which one...
Btw, I noticed that I have 4 jobs concerning this page in my job queue, and they never go (runJobs.php doesn't work) :
- SMW\UpdateJob A_Summary_to_Tulum_Villas pm= requestId=WhK589EYl7FK-dbQEqglEAAAAYg (id=17491,timestamp=20171120112323) status=claimed

Thanks guys! Varlin (talk) 10:09, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- How did you "removed" that page? Looks like you removed rows from the revision table but not from the page table. Please do not mess with the database if you don't know how it works!
- This api query to your wiki gives a hint about what page id needs to be removed from the database:
- /wiki/api.php?action=query&format=json&prop=info%7Crevisions&titles=A+Summary+to+Tulum+Villas Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:33, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- No, I did not remove it directly from the database, just using mediawiki interface (but maybe with an extension to remove all pages created by the user).
- Thanks, but unfortunately there is no row with page_id = 1496 in my 'page' table. Varlin (talk) 10:47, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- Since it is apparently linked with SemanticMW, I ran an update in Special:SMWAdmin. But now, there is not 4, but 6 jobs concerning that page that are "stuck". It seems there is some kind of loop generated by this corrupt page...

convertExtensionToRegistration.php

When running the conversion script it required me to have a LocalSettings.php file. I solved the issue creating an empty LocalSettings.php file and that seemed to work just fine. Question is if the LocalSettings.php file should have really had anything or if its contents affect how the migration is done. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:38, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- The convertExtensionToRegistration.php does not rely on any particular information in
LocalSettings.php. But may need a functional MediaWiki installation. Therefore the absence of the main configuration file can be a problem. Osnard (talk) 09:13, 24 November 2017 (UTC) - I think LocalSettings.php shouldn't be a requirement for this script and is probably caused by it inheriting the Maintenance class. This is solved in the install.php script, for example, that does not require it (and in fact will fail if present) Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:20, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

I can't update LibreOffice in Windows 10 Pro

Months ago I somehow managed to install LibreOffice 5.2.2.2 under Windows 10 Professional and use it. Since then, I have downloaded a number of updates, the latest being 5.4.3.2. I haven't been able to install any of them. Every attempt has failed due to the following error:
"Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access the directory C:\Program Files\LibreOffice5\Program. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
Does LibreOffice have a problem with Windows 10? In this version of Windows, Microsoft has concealed the true administrator account, and Guest account also. What we get is a local administrator account wnich isn't exactly the same as the traditional administrator account.
I try to keep my software up to date. I can't do this with LibreOffice as things now stand. I may have to delete this program because of this. Alfred bowman39 (talk) 14:03, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Is it possible to find broken anchor links?
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Probably a stupid question answered million times, but I can't find an answer. MediaWiki can track missing pages and report those with Special:WantedPages. I'm not sure it's possible, but can MediaWiki report broken anchors? Say, I have the Foo page that refers the Bar page like this: <nowiki>[[Bar#Name]]</nowiki>. Let's assume the Bar page lacks this section, but Special:WantedPages won't report this link as broken because the Bar page exists. Is there any way to find all broken anchors? Thanks in advance! 92.253.250.171 (talk) 20:00, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Just now, I imported some pages of zhwiki into my wiki. The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

The manual installation instructions on this site refer to things I don't think I have access to on wordpress, like changing root directories and such.
I downloaded xampp and their functions like mysql and apache and all that, if that is part of the manual installation to wordpress account.
If it isn't possible on wordpress, is there another free website builder that I can use that will upload mediawiki? It's essential to what I'm trying to do.
I apologize if this post appears twice, I posted and it didn't show up on this page, thought it didn't go through somehow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you. 1stplebian (talk) 23:41, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

MinervaNeue cause a fatal error

Hi Everyone
I just installed the MinervaNeue skin and it cause a fatal error. Please see the debug message:
Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'MinervaNeue is not compatible with the current installed version of MobileFrontend (1.0.0), it requires: >= 2.0.0.' in /var/www/html/includes/registration/ExtensionRegistry.php:261 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/html/includes/registration/ExtensionRegistry.php(148): ExtensionRegistry->readFromQueue(Array) #1 /var/www/html/includes/Setup.php(40): ExtensionRegistry->loadFromQueue() #2 /var/www/html/includes/WebStart.php(139): require_once('/var/www/html/i...') #3 /var/www/html/index.php(40): require('/var/www/html/i...') #4 {main} thrown in /var/www/html/includes/registration/ExtensionRegistry.php on line 261
Well, I just install the latest version of the MobileFront extension from here. Where I can found mobile version 2.0 or how to fix this error.
Thanks in advance. Adrianevs (talk) 23:43, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- I did and now it says that mediawiki 1.29.2 it’s too old for MobileFrontend 2.0.0 and it’s request Media Wiki 1.31.
- The problem is that latest version of MinervaNeue has just two files and I think I get the version for mediawiki 1.30 from github. Who maintain this skin or how I can get a previous version for 1.29 ? Adrianevs (talk) 05:25, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- You can get a previous version of the skin by changing the branch on GitHub. E.g. the download link to the version for MediaWiki 1.29 is https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-skins-MinervaNeue/archive/REL1_29.zip 2003:CC:ABE0:EF00:805A:DDB5:26D7:4F14 (talk) 07:42, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi,
- When I'm asking for previous version of 1.29 I mean the previous files for this mediawiki version. The problem is that snapshot of 1.29 contains just 2 files. Adrianevs (talk) 08:22, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Huh, you are right.
- The ZIP file from GitHub as well as the tar.gz file delivered through the extension distributor here on mediawiki.org both do not contain the actual skin files. 2003:CC:ABE0:EF00:4970:A338:A446:4E8C (talk) 13:41, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Who take care of this skin ? We should let him know somehow Adrianevs (talk) 14:51, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Work on MinervaNeue started shortly before 1.29 was released. It really isn't meant to work with 1.29.
- From the history, the dependency on MobileFrontend 2.0 was added by @PMiazga (WMF) back in July.
- I tried using the code just before those changes were made and got something that looked like it may have been working, but I would only recommend doing that if you're willing to go dig in the code.
- I've updated the information on the skin's description to show that it shouldn't be used with versions of MediaWiki before 1.30. ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 22:40, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- On MediaWiki 1.29 you should install Extension:MobileFrontend, which contains the Minerva skin. MinervaNeue is not supported until MediaWiki 1.30 Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:21, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- I did not know hat the MinervaNeue skin is not to be used with MediaWiki 1.29.
- In fact, the git repo really only contains the few files mentioned above. So actually creation of the tar and zip archive are working correctly. The repository really does not contain more files for these branches. 2003:CC:ABC3:C00:914D:C473:BF7:DF1F (talk) 18:29, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- So, Let me understand.
- So what are you saying is that MinervaNeue is not compatible with MediaWiki 1.29.2 ? Then how Wikipedia use it when it runs back on 1.29 ? Is not there any solution we can make it to works ? Adrianevs (talk) 19:30, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Wikipedia uses MediaWiki 1.31.0-wmf.10! Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:18, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

404 Error because of ShortURL
Hi Everyone,
I just set the following lines in a .htaccess file and on my LocalSettings.php file but now I get a 404 Error on my website.
Here's what I add
.htaccess file which is now on the root mediawiki directory where LocalSettings.php is
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^/?go(/.*)?$ %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/index.php [L]
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-f
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-d
RewriteRule ^/?images/thumb/[0-9a-f]/[0-9a-f][0-9a-f]/([^/]+)/([0-9]+)px-.*$ %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/thumb.php?f=$1&width=$2 [L,QSA,B]
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-f
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_URI} !-d
RewriteRule ^/?images/thumb/archive/[0-9a-f]/[0-9a-f][0-9a-f]/([^/]+)/([0-9]+)px-.*$ %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/thumb.php?f=$1&width=$2&archived=1 [L,QSA,B]
And I change the existing lines in to this in LocalSettings.php file:
## The URL base path to the directory containing the wiki; ## defaults for all runtime URL paths are based off of this. ## For more information on customizing the URLs please see: ## http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Short_URL $wgScriptPath = ""; $wgScriptExtension = ".php"; $wgArticlePath = "/go/$1"; ## To enable image uploads, make sure the 'images' directory ## is writable, then set this to true: $wgEnableUploads = true; $wgGenerateThumbnailOnParse = false;
I can figurate out why it generate a 404 error and how I can fix it. Anyone any ideea ?
Thanks in advanced. Adrianevs (talk) 11:11, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- If the wiki is placed at the root of the domain, it should work. Does it work accessing to the URL without the /go part? (something like yourdomain.com/index.php )
- Looking at the apache access/error logs and creating a rewrite log would help you in diagnosing the problem. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 13:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Click right on a Collapsible _Topic_ to Expand it?

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for all the support you give here!
I have made a tiny personal wiki. It covers a lot of topics, and I tend to talk too much, so I keep topics collapsed until you choose what you want to see, laugh.
But I don't like how having an Expand/Hide button that's away from the text of each topic...
Can clicking on the topic itself Expand it? Without that Expand button off to the side?
I feel sure that everyone who visits my site is initially confused a few seconds, until they figure it out. Everyone wants to click directly on where they want to go, right? It's only natural.
If it's possible to click right on a topic to Expand it, however, it still would be nice if a Collapse button showed up ''after'' Expanding. In case you're not interested in that topic and want to hide it again. (This applies not only to my Table of Contents here, but also where I have digressions on the text of my pages.)
Here is the MediaWiki Collapsible Elements help, but I can't see a way for this to do what I'm asking.
Thanks so much if you can help! You guys rock. RedKnight7 (talk) 00:44, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

- Also, taking a look at your discussion on MediaWiki talk:Common.css, you should know that you can see the potential changes of CSS rules in real-time through browser developer tools, without the need to actually change any MediaWiki:Common.css code. - Open menu link? I don't know what you're talking about. What skin are you using? ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 16:31, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- We use the "Vector" skin. In the mobiel version, in the top left corner, there should be a button saying "open menu" or something like that (we use the german version, so i don't no the exact words). 91.64.92.75 (talk) 17:13, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

- Do you mean that it looks something like this?
- The "hamburger button" is supposed to act as a menu. Are you seeing the grey bar, but no button? ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 20:16, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm 91.64.92.75 and i just created an account.
- https://snag.gy/QPFNji.jpg
- This is the mobile version of our Wiki. I put a red circle around the bar i'm talking about. Don't mind the gray lines beneath, i had to deface the content of the page, due to internal data protection guidelines.
- The gray bar appeared right after i installed 1.29.1. and i have no clue why. Malff (talk) 13:41, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Did you remember to update Extension:MobileFrontend too, after your MediaWiki update? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 19:26, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
Removing "Domain" from login page
Hello,
I'm trying to remove the domain drop down from my login page. I'm using AD and there is only one domain and I don't want to show it.
I don't want to hide it since the source will show the domain.
Is there a way to not generate the control? PSIDWiki (talk) 16:12, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- You will have to adapt the source code I think. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talk • contribs) 16:37, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks TheDJ for your reply. Can I remove the code to create the control or is it referenced some place else which will cause an error if I remove it? 141.211.32.5 (talk) 16:39, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- What would be the best way to create my own login page? I'm trying to find an alternative way to do this. PSIDWiki (talk) 19:04, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- that is something you definitely should NOT do. The login page is very critical point in the security architecture, and trying to do your own thing is likely to get you burned.
- Manual:SessionManager and AuthManager contains information for building extensions regarding session and authentication methods. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talk • contribs) 20:16, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe it is obvious, but...: Where does the domain drop-down come from? I am not using Active Directory, but such a drop-down is not there by default, right? 2003:CC:ABC4:3E00:7829:7CC:415:5C04 (talk) 20:07, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- You can find the extensions you have enabled in in Special:Version. Since i don't know what authentication methods you have enabled through which extensions, i can't say where a dropdown comes from. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talk • contribs) 20:17, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- DJ,
- Would it be better to just hide the domain control? I just don't want to have any security issues with someone using the domain value and names to try and hack into our system.
- Sorry I didn't mention this originally but I'm using MediaWiki version 1.26.3.
- Thank you PSIDWiki (talk) 14:35, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
https://www.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/<TITLE> DNS Issue
I am using mobile and whenever I click a link https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlothar_I it will redirect me tohttps://www.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlothar_I, and it will produce this issue "www.m.wikipedia.org's server DNS address could not be found" 180.190.50.110 (talk) 03:21, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, I redirected to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlothar_I, when I browse in desktop view in enwiki. When I browse in moblie view in enwiki, there was the same problem as yours.
- There may be a problem with URL redirection. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 04:03, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
Extension:MenuSidebar only editable by administrators
We are working with a new Wiki in our office and would like to use the extension MediaWiki:MenuSidebar. It works fine, but as it seems, it can only be edited by administrators. How can I configure MediaWiki:MenuSidebar so that it is editable for any logged-in user?

MediaWiki:Mainpage has no effect (or INVALID TITLE)
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I editted MediaWiki:Mainpage on my site and it has no effect. I changed MediaWiki:Sidebar to have the 'Main page' link go to the desired page title, and it works fine. The desired Main Page content is at QualityBox Demo Since the desired page title has a space in it, I tried both with a space, and an underscore, but neither works. When I click the logo in the upper left, it navigates to Main Page instead of QualityBox demo
I see no errors in the logs including runJobs (which I ran manually just in case). Any idea why this isn't working? or what to check? I tried it on another wiki and it works instantly. Greg Rundlett (talk) 14:44, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Remove
[[Category:Admin]]from your MediaWiki:Mainpage. - In case of an invalid link, which apparently includes involving a category, the logo URL, apparently, defaults back to the original Main page. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 19:36, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- [SOLVED] Thanks AhmadF.Cheema! That was the problem. Since I manage categories with Extension:CategorySuggest, it's in a separate form element which caused me to overlook the fact that it's technically still part of the page content. Greg Rundlett (talk) 22:19, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Exclude history, Special pages and other pages
Hello,
I'm would like to hide history, disscussion, special page and others to just the admin, which is myself.
How can I hide pages from logged in and non-logged in users?
I'm using this approach but I'm unable to get list all the pages I want to hide.
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['createaccount'] = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
Then for the logged in users they can edit, delete, read so for them I'm using:
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['edit'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['upload'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['reupload'] = true; 141.211.32.5 (talk) 18:20, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- The best solution for your needs would be Extension:Lockdown.
- Special pages, discussion and history pages can be restricted for other user groups, but "hiding" pages will be more difficult. Making them in-accessible by including them in a new namespace would be the quickest route to go.
- However, keep in mind that MediaWiki was not designed to provide per-page access restrictions, so any method used for this has its risks and critical private material should not be protected through such per-page restrictions. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 19:15, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Ahmad, thank you for your reply.
- I should have said restrict the use of the page by non-logged in users. I don't want non-logged in users to be able to view any of that information.
- Is there a way to hide the "Special pages" link from showing up? I only want the administrator to see the special pages, history, discussion, etc.. links on the page.
- I did test using Lockdown with this code in my LocalSettings.php:
- $wgSpecialPageLockdown['Brokenredirects'] = array('user');
- I was trying to see if non-logged in users would be restricted, but that doesn't work.
- If I was to use a new namespace will it cause the administrator not to see it? PSIDWiki (talk) 19:53, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- By "Special pages" link, do you mean the one on the sidebar?
- See Manual:Interface/Sidebar#Add or remove toolbox sections (PHP) and Manual:Interface/Sidebar#Change sidebar content when logged in (PHP).
- For the "Brokenredirects" issue, try with "BrokenRedirects" (capital "R").
- The capitalizations can be confusing, use "MessagesEn.php" file (
$specialPageAliasesarray) for exact name of page. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 20:11, 30 November 2017 (UTC) - Hi Ahmad,
- Yes the one that displayed on the side. When the user clicks it they will have too many options that allows them to see the user list and groups while not being logged in. I want to hide that. I'm trying to create a wiki where specific internal users who log in can edit and create pages, non-logged in users can just read the pages and the 2 admins can see and do everything. I'm still not getting it to work. 141.211.32.5 (talk) 15:22, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- So, have you tried the methods to do so, mentioned in the above PHP links? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 00:35, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
500 Error?
Hi! I just installed MediaWiki to my website, I can go through the setup fine, but when I finish the setup and upload the LocalSettings.php file, it gives me a 500 error whenever I go to my website! TheGreenNinja2 (talk) 20:58, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- This indicates some configuration issue.
- Do you have access to your server error logs? Those should indicate the exact problem.
- See the note in section Manual:Installing MediaWiki#Upload files, for one such common configuration mistake. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 21:08, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- I would have to get them manually but yes, I have access to the whole file system, where would they be? it is an apache server TheGreenNinja2 (talk) 21:10, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Where are the Apache and PHP log files? Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 22:31, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
