  • Request for adminship by Trutech on AUG 15
  • Hi, I am truetech requesting adminship. I am a member of the MW Support desk. I own/operate my own wiki site at vindemi.com. Long time contributer on other wiki sites such as lostpedia.com. Member on all wikimedia sites. Reason for requesting adminship is to cleanup/organize some pages here along with other things.

Except for tagging things as "(RESOLVED)", you haven't given me any reason as to why you need the tools, I will not accept this request, but maybe some other crat should look into this ..--Cometstyles 20:06, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its not just resolved, if you look at it I gave answers to about half the page. Cheers, --Truetech (Talk) MediaWiki Support Team 20:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you provide some specific pages that need cleaning up and organization that are fully protected from editing? I think that is a pretty weak reason for requesting sysop. If the "cleanup" and "organization" requires pages to be moved or whatnot, there are plenty of active sysops that will find and delete the unneeded redirects almost instantaneously, although flagging those pages with {{Delete }} helps as well. There may be another crat that thinks otherwise, but I think you should seriously stop power mongering, since that's what it appears to me as (you requested sysop almost immediately after you started editing here, then one week after that was shot down you requested it again) --Skizzerz 21:42, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. Why do you want sysop flag? As the above two bureaucrats said, you haven't provided any reason why you'd need the sysop tools. Since you're not a developer, it's obvious that bureaucrats look a bit more carefully into the request. Besides, your third edit after signing up was a request for user rights; that left a rather bad impact on me, to be honest. You do not need special user rights to be able to help out with the site — some simple tasks that could greatly help MediaWiki and MediaWiki.org website that do not require sysop or bureaucrat rights include:
  • Writing new documentation pages (i.e. Manual:Maintenance scripts is full of redlinks)
  • Updating old documentation pages with current information
  • Tagging junk/test/etc. pages for deletion with {{delete}}
  • Resetting the sandbox periodically
  • Submitting code patches to open bugs
Besides, the big black box at the top of this page states clearly in English that if you're not a developer, you do have to give some good reason to get any privileges; you should not expect to ever be made a bureaucrat and don't ask for sysop without giving a concrete reason. --Sayuri 22:19, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are right. One week is not enough. As a buraucrat on other sites myself, I should of thought about that. I am aborting this request but will continue contributing to the support desk. Thanks for looking into it though. Regards, --Truetech (Talk) MediaWiki Support Team 23:01, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The worst punishment for transgressions, on WMF wikis, is to demote someone to admin. They suddenly stop being able to help where they had been able to before, and instead dig through recentchanges looking for trouble. I simply don't have enough cruelty in me to demote you to such a low position, so therefore I'm afraid I'll have to oppose this adminship. Kylu 00:23, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
