Project:Requests/User rights/ExE Boss

User: ExE Boss[edit]

Requested user-rights: Administrator.

I am an active software developer with many contributions to many open source projects (including MediaWiki’s Skin:Minerva Neue : rSMIN27525d0…). I also maintain several Lua modules here and on Fandom.

I intend to use admin rights to finish the migration of Module:Message box to use TemplateStyles , which I’ve discussed with Izno in MediaWiki talk:Gadget-site.css § Last to TemplateStyles: mbox and MediaWiki:Gadget-enwp-boxes.css, by doing the following:

  1. Moving Template:fmbox/styles.css to Module:Message box/fmbox.css.
  2. Applying Special:Diff/4705697 to Module:Message box.
  3. Removing the hardcoded ‎<templatestyles src="..." /> declarations from {{mbox}}, {{ambox}}, {{cmbox}}, {{fmbox}}, {{imbox}}, {{ombox}}, and {{tmbox}}.

After that, I intend to continue doing general maintenance work, such as cleaning up Special:WantedCategories and fulfilling non‑controversial edit requests .

OK to Support this one. Leaderboard (talk) 10:07, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Question: has there been a delay in processing any prior edit requests you have made? Also, why does cleaning up wanted categories require advanced rights? --DannyS712 (talk) 00:59, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DannyS712:

has there been a delay in processing any prior edit requests you have made?

Yes, yes there are delays: {{PD Help Page}}; and Topic:Wc2laoiharxu9q7dTopic:Wcagnsq9m3ps9g4m of {{Shared Template Warning}}

Also, why does cleaning up wanted categories require advanced rights?

It is mainly because many wanted categories don’t have any ‎<translate>‎<tvar name=1>‎</tvar>‎</translate>, many of which were also deleted in the past alongside their translated units with the reason of “Empty category”, mainly by Shirayuki, the undeletion of which requires admin rights.

An alternative is to create the translated category by creating an untranslated copy of the “Page display title”, but that is an even uglier hack that I’ve been told not to do, because the translated unit requires deletion afterwards. The only true long‑term solution is T285463.

 Comment: I have deleted Extension:Translate/sm and its 38 empty categories (Category:AbortEmailNotification extensions/sm etc.) that you created --Shirayuki (talk) 22:32, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirayuki: Well, I had only created those categories because Extension:Translate/sm was created by Ciencia Al Poder (Special:Log?logid=20206673), also Category:Parser function extensions/sm and Category:Special page extensions/sm are now also empty. — ExE Boss (talk) 00:00, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These Modules are maintained in enwiki and then usually just imported from there to mediawikiwiki, so I would rather recommend updating them in enwiki. --Zabe (talk) 21:34, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've now handled all of ExE Boss' edit requests. On one hand, the fact that no one handled them for three months suggests there is a need for more admins, and thus this request should be granted. On the other hand, I agree with AntiCompositeNumber on Commons that many of the candidate's edits serve to make templates more complicated for little apparent purpose, and in fact some of them, such as the edits to Template:Shortcut were reverted for breaking things. On a third hand, when I was made an admin, I received widespread support from the community on the timescale of days, and therefore fact that this request has only received one explicit statement of support in three months signifies that the candidate does not have the level of trust expected for a non-developer (the one patch to MinervaNeue is not sufficient to qualify as a developer) to become an admin. Overall, Weak oppose * Pppery * it has begun 00:26, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose I'm with Pppery on this one. --Zabe (talk) 00:10, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
N Not done sorry, but no consensus in favor of granting after being open for a while --DannyS712 (talk) 04:52, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
