MediaWiki talk:Blockedtext

Change on my wiki
[edit]Is there any way to change this message, either via LocalSettings or an extension? The language file itself will just get overwritten at next update, so I don't want to make the change there.

- I've semi-protected this page since it seems clear that this discussion is pointless and no productive changes to the blocked text message will result from it. * Pppery * it has begun 15:30, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Change the wording from "The reason given is $2" to "$7, You were blocked by $1 for this reason: $2". Also remove a blocked text wording from "Your current IP address is $3, and the block ID is #$5", and add "* Block ID: #$5" and "* Current IP address: $3".
The result:
| Your account or IP address has been blocked by $1. $7, You were blocked by $1 for this reason: $2.
You can contact $1 or another administrator to discuss the block. You cannot use the 'e-mail this user' feature (Special:EmailUser) unless a valid e-mail address is specified in your account preferences and you have not been blocked from using it. Please include all above details in any queries you make. |
Delete this page redirect main page (talk) 16:17, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see why that's a useful improvement; it's just minor rewording. --Clump (talk) 16:58, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Suggestion
[edit]Why don't we use Module:IPAddress to switch between "IP address" or "account" depending on whether the targeted user is either logged on/off? 2600 etc (talk) 21:28, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
