Issue transferring new pages

I'm using this script to transfer pages. It works great for pages that already exist on both wikis, but when it tries to transfer a page to the destination wiki that doesn't exist it crashes with the message, "ERROR: An error occurred for uri https://server/wiki2/api.php". The bot account is able to create new pages. Is this a constraint of the transfer.py script?

Is it because they are "New" pages on the source wiki? If so, how can I overcome this?
