Has anyone else encountered difficulties working with XAMPP 1.7.4-2 beta for Linux?
[edit]I am having trouble getting MediaWiki to install; it won't recognize the database username that I created and granted privileges to. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem. Tisane 11:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Manual incomplete for MediaWiki 1.27
[edit]I installed XAMPP on Win 10, set up a database and a user, granted the privileges, modified php.ini, downloaded and unpacked MediaWiki 1.27 in a sub directory.
But when I pointed my browser to it, I got an error: "MediaWiki 1.27 internal error. Installing some external dependencies (e.g. via composer) is required."
I think there are additional steps required: Download and install Composer and configure a skin. Once I followed these, the installation was fine.

Cannot create directory errors

- Php: 8.2.12
- XAMPP: 3.3.0
- Windows 10 22H2
I'm just posting this here in the event someone runs into the same issue as a I did.
I installed MediaWiki 1.43.0 on a Windows 10 22H2 desktop PC.
I followed the procedure here and everything worked fine until I started to add more pictures.
Eventually I would start getting "Cannot create directory" errors when uploading pictures. It was not immediately obvious but the error occurs when the uploaded image is trying to be stored in an existing folder in the images folder.
I troubleshooted with the debug toolbar and the error was caused by FSFileBackend.php. The error was specifically:
[FileOperation] Wikimedia\FileBackend\FSFileBackend::doPrepareInternal: directory C:\xampp\htdocs\wiki/images/8/80 is read-only
The folder itself was not read-only (checkmarked), there was only a square (indicating a subfolder or file is read-only). I manually inspected the files/folders but none were set to read-only. This includes hidden files and system files. I tried giving the user account Guest and Everyone all permissions, but that didn't work.
I found some old forum posts on the Internet about some tweaks that could be done to bypass the issue. The information was lost but I dug around the FSFileBackend.php and tried to comment out parts of the file to see if I could get it to work.
What ended up fixing my issue was commenting out these specific lines (516 to 518) by adding // in front:
} elseif ( !$isWritable ) {
$this->logger->error( __METHOD__ . ": directory $fsDirectory is read-only") ;
$status->fatal( 'directoryreadonlyerror', $params['dir']) ;
This is not an elegant fix but it allows you to bypass the read-only error and upload images. Maybe someone can figure out a proper solution eventually. I have posted about the issue on the Support Desk but I received no responses so far.
