@Ciencia Al Poder: The ideas may upgrade MediaWiki to 1.28.2

Syntaxhighlight problems with upgrade

Taraathan (talkcontribs)

I just used softaculous to upgrade our Mediawiki installation from 1.23.6 to 1.26.2 on a Litespeed server. The script appeared to installed the latest SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi extension, and I also see a recent composer.json in the folder. But I am seeing Category:Pages_with_syntax_highlighting_errors on every wiki page that uses the extension.

I looked at the extension page and noticed the recommendation to use

wfLoadExtension( 'SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi' );

so I put that into my LocalSettings.php instead of the old "require_once..."

but that doesn't change the error indication. I don't know what else to try - suggestions are welcome.

Taraathan (talkcontribs)

Note: the only language that is used is 'xml'.

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

The extension page says that since 1.26 it requires composer when downloading from git. Although you don't seem to download from git, unless softaculous does that.

Try redownloading the extension again from the extension distributor page.

Taraathan (talkcontribs)

I have narrowed the problem down to no installation of Composer. I am having difficulty installing this on our shared host. This new dependency is quite a headache - I suggest you make it more clear in your release notes.

Please ask in Support Desk if you have problems

50.197.125.81 (talkcontribs)

Hello,

I recently upgraded to a new version of MediaWiki and when I push from stage to production, my cpu/memory/entry processes shoot straight up. The site looks perfect and runs good on stage, but when more than a few vistors come I get this issue. I have looked at everything that I knew to look up. Any ideas would be extremely helpful. Thanks

Two problems (LimitInternalRecursion & app.php not found) with new media wiki installation

Athris (talkcontribs)

Hello,

on my server i create a subfolder calls "wiki" and a subdomain "wiki.mydomain.com" which point to the subfolder. I download the new 1.27.1 wiki from this site and install it. Now i have two big problems:

  1. Problem: If i upload files i select my file and press the upload button. Now the site refresh but the file is not uploaded. I get the same uploaded mask. If i select the file a second time the upload works.
  2. Problem: Sometimes if i want to save a article / site i get this error message: Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in.

Now i look into my error logs and get these errors:

[Mon Sep 05 23:26:43 2016] [-:error] [pid 31729] [client 127.0.0.1:47076] [host wiki.lythoria.de] script '/is/htdocs/wp12677946_S31BDZISFX/www/wiki/images/app.php' not found or unable to stat

I dont know why. The problems dont always occur, but very often. Can someone help me with these problems?

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

From the logs: app.php is not part of MediaWiki and from the logs apparently all requests are being originated from 127.0.0.1, so there seems to be a script or something on the server making such requests

The problem about loss of session data can happen if you changed $wgMainCacheType to use a caching system that doesn't persist across requests, most probably CACHE_ACCEL. CACHE_DB is usually the best option.

Athris (talkcontribs)

Okay app.php was a script, but i have still the problem with session lost. I try the follow options:

-CACHE_NONE

-CACHE_DB

-CACHE_ANYTHING

But the problem still exists if i save an article or upload a file.

Maybe a problem with the sub domain? :/

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

Instead of changing $wgMainCacheType, change Manual:$wgSessionCacheType instead, setting it to CACHE_DB.

But yes, it may be a problem of the subdomain if there's some weird configuration redirecting pages between domains

Athris (talkcontribs)

I dont find it in my LocalSettings.php... so i copy it from DefaultSettings.php. Thats my conf:

require_once './extensions/Auth_phpbb.php';

// and more phpbb bridge stuff....

I delete the comments and security data like database connection.

Is this configuration okay?

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

Looks sane, but I don't know other possible causes of this issue :(

You can set up a debug log and look at any possible message about sessions that may be suspicious. The log also prints cookies so you can see if any session cookie changes its value, which would be wrong.

Athris (talkcontribs)

Mhm i use the phpbb3 bridge.. is that a problem?

GXXF (talkcontribs)

I know that MediaWiki requires PHP to run. Can make a new version while PHP is not required?

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

There's HHVM but I don't know if you can completely get rid of PHP with that

173.64.4.150 (talkcontribs)

No. The entire application would need to be rewritten in a different language.

Freeman2001~mediawikiwiki (talkcontribs)

Okay, I have downloaded, extracted, and uploaded my copy of MediaWiki. When I go to the wiki, it says "LocalSettings.php not found. Please set up the wiki first." So i click set up the wiki. Then no matter what I do, this error is thrown at me: "Error starting session: session_start() [<a href='function.session-start'>function.session-start</a>]: open(/var/php_sessions/sess_095f5068adbc6b7c45d3fbdfa00113a3, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) " I'm not sure what to do, please help! On the manual, it says to change the directory permission to 777 if such error occurs

199.184.30.51 (talkcontribs)

I had the same problem, but changing permissions around didn't help. It turned out to be an issue with session_save_path in php.ini: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.session-save-path.php

110.83.121.48 (talkcontribs)

use ssh insert this: chmod -R 777 /var/php_sessions/ Okay~

95.56.218.25 (talkcontribs)

This problem is php.ini problem:

>hosting control panel >>PHP Scripting

edit php.ini and go to this place:

; where MODE is the octal representation of the mode. Note that this
; does not overwrite the process's umask.
; http://php.net/session.save-path
session.save_path = "/var/php_sessions"

change this

session.save_path = " /var/php_sessions "

to

session.save_path = " /home/users/web/xxxx/xxxxxx/public_html/phpsessions "

see http://www.netfirms.com/knowledgebase/beta/article.bml?ArticleID=1290&type=How%20To#Nugget_1374

you can "autoinstall" Mediawiki using install script site; https://secure.installatron.com/apps#cmd=browser&display=mediawiki

anyway you have to change your " session.save_path" address

62.232.110.114 (talkcontribs)

Sadly, the install of MediaWiki 1.21.3 did this for me as well. Instead of getting "file not found" after the "MediaWiki 1.21.3 LocalSettings.php not found. Please set up the wiki first." message, it simply forwards me onto "mw-config/index.php" and displays the same info. If I click the 'set up wiki' link again, it forwards me to: "mw-config/mw-config/index.php" and so on.

Changing the session.save_path did nothing, neither did changing the permissions to 777 for the save_path.

Any advice?

Worked it out. For some inexplicable reason, it won't install using Google Chrome. Used Firefox in a last ditch attempt, and it seems to be going through the install.

184.64.248.180 (talkcontribs)

Worked for me.

I had a botched install in the directory before and failed to download the LocalSettings file at the end.

Deleted the dir, started again and had this issue.

Switching to Firefox was a work around

Giulioprisco (talkcontribs)

This works. Add:

ini_set('session.save_path',realpath(dirname($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) . '/../session'));

to mw-config/index.php and includes/NoLocalSettings.php (before session start)

50.160.207.45 (talkcontribs)

where in the file do I add ini_set('session.save_path',realpath(dirname($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) . '/../session'));

Thank you
