What's an ETag header?

See en:HTTP ETag. iAlex 10:36, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Description[edit]

By setting this to be "true" in your LocalSettings.php, intelligent web browsers are able to avoid re-downloading content and instead rely on cached content more reliably. This can improve the apparent performance of your wiki. --Gadlen 19:00, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a very positive thing that should only be turned off for debugging... why it is 'false' by default? --Seefood 16:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is it properly working?[edit]

I get something like this in Live HTTP header for my wiki: Etag: W/"MyWiki:pcache:idhash:52856-0!1!0!!en!2--20100512152926". On WP it's e.g. Etag: "639-4b5f9de4" which looks more correct. For both YSlow reads the ETags are misconfigured. --Subfader 22:36, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
