This setting, if enabled, allows users to get some extra information about the page by specifying "action=info" in the URL.
The setting has been phased out with MediaWiki 1.20 (T40451).
For example, entering https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki?action=info might generate the following (fictional) output instead of the main page contents:
