Software deployment proposal: Jade

Hey folks. I’m the research scientist behind the mw:ORES machine learning system for Wikipedia. I’m writing to propose that we deploy a new system for tracking and retraining ORES in Simple English Wikipedia called mw:Jade.

You’ll likely be most familiar with ORES via the filters and highlighting interface on Special:RecentChanges. ORES provides the “contribution quality predictions” and the “user intent predictions”. These predictions come from a machine and while they are useful, they are often wrong. Jade allows you to “label” edits while you do patrolling work or review your watchlist. We can then use these labels to track quality issues in ORES and to re-train it to work better for your wiki. Put simply, ORES contains machine predicted labels and Jade contains human judgment labels.

We’d like to do a pilot deployment of the Jade system in Simple English Wikipedia and use your feedback to iterate on the design of the system. If you agree, we’d ask that you try using Jade while patrolling edits and talk to us about your experiences submitting labels. If for some reason Jade causes problems for your wiki and you ask us to, we’ll roll it back until you think it is ready.

Jade makes interface changes in a few different places: Inclusion of the Jade namespace. “Jade:Diff/123456” is a page for managing labels of the edit Special:Diff/123456. Jade pages are editable and have a history just like wiki pages. Additional filters at Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist for filtering edits by their labels or unlabeled status. Controls for adding labels on Special:Diff and from the “undo” and “rollback” functions.

Hej. Jag är forskaren bakom maskininlärningssystemet mw:ORES för Wikipedia. Jag skriver för att föreslå att vi installerar ett nytt system kallat Wikipedia:Jade för att spåra och träna upp ORES på svenskspråkiga Wikipedia.

Ni känner förmodligen till ORES genom filtren och färgläggningarna i Special:Senaste ändringar. ORES tillhandahåller "bidragskavlitetsförutsägelser" och "användaravsiktsförutsägelser". Dessa förutsägelser görs av ett program och även om de är användbara så är de ofta fel. Jade låter dig "etikettera" redigeringar när du patrullerar eller tittar i din bevakningslista. Vi kan sen använda dessa etiketter för att spåra kvalitetsproblem i ORES för att återträna den för att bli bättre på er wiki. I korthet, ORES har etiketter ett program förutsagt och Jade har etiketter baserat på mänskligt omdöme.

Vi skulle vilja göra en pilotinstallation av ORES på svenskspråkiga Wikipedia och använda er återkoppling för att iterera systemets utformning. Om ni går med på det vill vi att ni använder Jade när ni patrullerar och delar med er av era erfarenheter av att etikettera med oss. Om Jade av någon anledning skulle ställa till probelm på er wiki kan vi avinstallera det igen tills ni tycker att det är redo.

Jade gör förändringar i gränsnittet på några ställen: En namnrymd som heter Jade. "Jade:Diff/123456" är en sida för att hantera etiketter av redigeringen Special:Diff/123456. Jadesidor är redigerbara och har en historik som andra wikisidor. Ytterligare filter i Special:Senaste ändringar och Special:Bevakningslista för att filtrera redigeringar baserat på deras etiketter eller avsaknad av dem. Kontroller för att lägga till etiketter på SpecialDiff och från funktionerna "gör ogjord" och "tillbakarullning".
