@Trizek (WMF) I don't want to edit your very fancy coding on this, so can you please change the note about Review Status. It should read more like this, I think: "Review status filters are available only to users with appropriate rights on wikis that have implemented RC Patrol."

@Catrope does that sound right? Jmatazzoni (talk) 00:15, 18 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Those wordings are automatically propagated, when the code itself changes. When Catrope et al update the code version, it will update here automagically. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 01:12, 18 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
If I'm not mistaken, these filters are only available to users that are in the Confirmed users group, using Flagged Revisions. Or both? Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 15:10, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think the reason James worded this as he did is that different wikis let different users see this. On en.wiki, you need the Patrollers right. I.e., I do not thing "Confirmed" is enough. Jmatazzoni (talk) 17:28, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Default Filters?

Hello, is there a way to change the default filters? That is, can I make it so that it automatically shows problem edits without having to manually change it each time? Sorry if this has already been answered. El cid, el campeador (talk) 13:02, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Option to saving filter sets is coming. It will have possibility to set one of saved filter setting for default. wargo (talk) 13:32, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Great to hear, thanks! El cid, el campeador (talk) 13:34, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Wargo, that is correct! I might note additionally that this means we'll get rid of all the preferences currently on the Preferences page. So you'll manage your defaults/preferences for Recent Changes ON Recent Changes (which seems like a win to me). Jmatazzoni (talk) 17:13, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Released! wargo (talk) 11:32, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely! You can find the details on this page. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 11:49, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Learners

[edit]

If an user makes their first edit 4 days after registering they are count as "learners"? Stryn (talk) 20:17, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes. You move from Newcomer to Learner if you match one of the two definitions: have more than 11 edits or more than 4 days of activity. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 08:34, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Good to know, then I must add "learners" also to my filters, because some users are starting to vandalize after 4 days of account creation has passed. Stryn (talk) 12:20, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, you can have people in the Experienced group who vandalize as well. :) Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 12:27, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hah right, the filters are not so good if you want to find vandals and spammers. Stryn (talk) 12:41, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
You should rely more on prediction filters (your wiki have those filters) which will help you to catch bad edits, no matter who made them. Then you can sub-filter by type of users if you want (by highlighting for instance). Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 12:58, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I know, I mean meta-wiki :) Stryn (talk) 13:17, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, unless there is no such filters on Meta, you can't filter as you wish.
OTOH, user status is set for all wikis. An experienced user on a given wiki can still be a newcomer on Meta. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 13:27, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Add filters for user pages and talk pages

[edit]

When looking for article vandalism incidents, there is no use for user pages and talk pages appearing in the list, so I think a filter excluding those would be a good addition. Thinker78 (talk) 19:09, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

We already have this! :-) Click "Namespaces" at the right-side of the "Filters" area, to get a dropdown list of namespaces. You can either select the namespace you want, or you can select the namespaces you don't want and then click "Excluding selected". Also you can save your filters by clicking the "bookmark icon" (next to the trash-can icon) in the "Active filters" area. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:22, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Probably, not likely

[edit]

Ok, so this to some people is petty, but it's oh so easy to 'fix'!

Please humour me (but it's an honest & serious point).

I'd love to see the filters' descriptions use the word 'probably', instead of 'likely',

so that it doesn't jar to anybody's eyes, for the following reasons:

On the UK side of the pond, the word 'likely':

  • is used mostly as an adjective - "The likely outcome is poverty.".
  • is used as an adverb only when preceded by 'more', 'most' or 'very' - "He most likely forgot"; "She will very likely lose her deposit.".
  • And so the British use the word 'probably' when an adverb is needed.

However, on the US side of the pond, the words 'likely' and 'probably' are used interchangeably?

Hence, British readers would expect to see "[Edits that are] Probably good faith",

rather than "[Edits that are] Likely good faith".

Yes, it matters not to US readers, but why not use 'probably' instead of 'likely',

which is fine for the US and British too?

Thanks for your time, and I hope somebody can make this simple change.

Yours, 'Trafford09', 15:31 GMT, on 21st Sept. 2018. Trafford09 (talk) 14:32, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

How long are saved filters saved for?

[edit]

How long are saved filters saved for? On https://abj.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges even when logged in, it seems they are saved only for a couple of minutes. Jidanni (talk) 11:42, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

In theory, forever.
I checked on the ones I use since years now, and they are still working. I just created a new one (on Chrome) and it works on a Wikimedia wiki.
Please note that I have limited competency about solving issues on third-parties installations. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 14:24, 14 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

No way to stamp out User creation log

[edit]

On https://abj.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges you will see the hundreds of

22:43 (User creation log)‎ [WinnerruOl‎; Charlessfmsa‎; Charlescuoxa‎]

You will also notice, that no amount of filtering in, nor filtering out, will make them go away. All one can do is "avert the eyes". Yes, I am talking about a way to not have them appear when I look at RecentChanges. I don't mind if others see them. Jidanni (talk) 11:47, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Explainer "UserExpLevel"

[edit]

Could someone please work in the term "UserExpLevel" into the text, which is the special term utilised by the system though is not explained here on the help page.

I have added a redirect from Help:UserExpLevel to the obverse page so there is some ability to find this page in a search. Thanks.

Might also be worth adding an explainer that to find all the relevant components that one needs to set the preference "Use non-JavaScript interface" as it is not evident, that this page and its functionality sits behind that descriptor. It took this neanderthal a while to get the gist of the label. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:22, 4 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can you be more specific about where you found this "UserExpLevel" string? Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 15:53, 7 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
It appears in urls through various recent changes
Either be logged out, or if logged in with the JS recent changes being on go to
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges
go to active filters and click on newcomers and/or learners (user registration and experience) and you will see the url change to ...Special:RecentChanges?userExpLevel=...
Some wikis have it set as a hard url in their RC, so missing the explanatory. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:20, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for clarifying it. I changed the redirect you created to go to the right section. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 10:14, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can the newcomers and experienced editors age and count be changed?

[edit]

Can the newcomers and experienced editors age and count be changed? If not can I suggest it in a future MediaWiki update. 212.52.23.71 06:56, 23 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
