File: namespace restrictions[edit]

Experts, give some comments about commons: User talk: Materialscientist #SVG image under «.jpg» page name, please. BTW I am astonished that this wiki does not contain any documentation about moving files and pages in the «File:» namespace. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 14:02, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
The exchange can be read at c:Special:PermanentLink/76432179 #SVG image under «.jpg» page name. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:10, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

No „move“-tab[edit]

I don't have a move-tab. So how to rename Harzer Roller (Hörprobe).ogg to De-Harzer Roller.ogg ? Ogmios (talk) 18:42, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Ok, solved. Ogmios (talk) 18:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

German Help[edit]

Not being allowed, to create a german Help page, I put my hint in here.

Bei einer deuschen Wiki Installation darf man kein Pluszeichen(+) in der Titelzeile verwenden. Man muss "%2B" einsetzen.

Was ja logisch wäre. Aber das ergibt eine Fehlermeldung. Statt dessen muss man jetzt "Dumpbacke + Depp" eingeben. Dann klappt es. Absolut unlogisch, aber so funktioniert es.--Bernd M. 21:20, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Moving a page without creating a redirect[edit]

All users should be able to move pages being under their namespace without creating redirects. This is especially useful for users developing articles inside sandboxes they own. In Greek Wikipedia we have developed a template for user sandbox that allows easy creation of sub-sandboxed articles and move to article namespace without thinking. Here is a temporary example:

The template allows instant creation and move of sub-sandboxes, but orphan redirections are created that have to be removed by admin bots.--ManosHacker (talk) 10:09, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Moving a page causes it to show up in 'Wanted pages'[edit]

We recently moved a lot of pages (read changed the title of the page). All these pages are retrieved by #ask on various other pages. After the move the special page 'Wanted page' still list all the old page titles for each moved page with the # of links to the old page. In most cases following the links it shows the pages which have an #ask to retrieve the (now renamed) page. The page with the #ask is obviously still retrieving the moved page(s) but with the new page title.

Any idea who to clean up the 'Wanted page' list so it won't show page titles of renamed pages if these pages are only 'linked to' via an #ask?

Module namespace special[edit]

It seems to me that in module namespace moves also automatically delete old page. If so, it should be mentioned here somewhere (in order to be returned in a user search).--Xoristzatziki (talk) 12:50, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Alternative Tool[edit]

I wasnt thrilled with how this worked, so I created my own tool. MSSQL didnt work at all, I finally fixed ALL the bugs in the code and still wasnt pleased. One thing is that all the incoming links still have the old page name - I found this to be the biggest issue. More details on github:
