Help:Extension:CampaignEvents/Registration/Permitted namespaces
As default, event registration is permitted in the Event namespace. As of the week of May 19 2025, it will also be permitted in the project namespace (i.e., Wikipedia namespace, Wikidata namespace) as default. However, wikis admins can change the permitted namespaces for Event Registration through Community Configuration. For example, if a wiki holds events in the Wikipedia or WikiProject namespace, admins may decide to permit event registration in those namespaces as well. The same rules of event registration would apply (i.e., only the page creator can enable registration).
Steps for an admin to add/remove namespaces that are allowed for event registration
[edit]Note: You need to be an admin on a wiki to do these steps.
- If you are a wiki admin, go to Special:CommunityConfiguration and select ‘CampaignEvents’
- You will see which namespaces are permitted. The default is already included (Event). You can scroll through the list and add more namespaces, such as Wikipedia.
- Once you have your selection, you can save your changes.
- You will have the option to specify why you are making this change.
Note that, if you do not have the admin right on a wiki, you will not be able to make this change and you will see a message that lets you know that.
Steps for an organizer to add event registration to a permitted namespace that is not the event namespace
[edit]- If you have the event organizer right, you can create the event page in the permitted namespace (such as Wikipedia).
- Go to Special:EnableEventRegistration. This is because, unlike with the Event namespace, you will not see a pop-up to enable registration after you create the event page. This is because many pages in this alternative namespace may not be for events, so it would be frustrating for editors to see this pop-up every time they create a page in this namespace.
- Select your event or type in your event in the event field, and then add in all other event information. Enable registration when complete.
- You will see your event registration on the event page in the newly permitted namespace.
FAQ
[edit]What happens if a permitted namespace is added and then removed, but some event pages with event registration have been created in that namespace before the namespace was removed?
- Existing event registration pages:
- In this scenario, the existing event pages with event registration in the formerly permitted namespaces will remain as is. In other words, event registration will still exist.
- Organizers will be able to edit and delete these existing event registration data, which can be found in Special:MyEvents
- Event pages are normal wiki pages, so wiki standards around page deletion apply.
- New event registration pages:
- In this scenario, no new event pages can have event registration enabled in the namespace. If an organizer tries to enable an event page in the namespace, they will see an error message in Special:EnableEventRegistration.
