The *content* in this screenshot is GFDL, and so is not actually ours to place into the public domain. robchurch | talk 23:25, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, the layout is trivial and the given words are single words (you cannot really call it "text", which means an own "copyrightable formulation", and of course, would have to be under the GFDL also when used as a screeshot). Therefore this image is ineligible for copyright afaik.
  • You can change the template to GFDL, if you like, but this would have no effect on actual usage restrictions, if someone think about the matter of this simple image. Anyway, we already got dozens of users on Commons, who tried to claim copyrights for a stupid red dot and 2 grey lines or so ;-) --:Bdk: 21:28, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • And my upload is inline with Project:PD_Help#Screenshots. The only difference is, that I did this screenshot from my own testinstallation of a MW. --The0bone 13:35, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Those are the precise German-language defaults (ignoring the project name)? If that's the case, then I retract the statement, since the interface as it stands would be under the GNU GPL, and I concede that that will be as close as most interface shots get. Besides, no MediaWiki developer is going to turn into a litigious Yank and start suing us left, right and centre for a few pictures in the documentation. ;) robchurch | talk 19:05, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
