"No files have been made available for viewing" in MW 1.26

Even though I have a $wgViewFilesPathList structure defined, the special page Special:ViewFiles has nothing but the message "No files have been made available for viewing" displayed.

Using MW 1.26 on Debian 8 and the updated Extension:SyntaxHighlight
