Does this work in 1.34+

Some wikifarm admins refused to install this because "it is old", however, I have no idea if it would actually still work. Has anything been broken?

To exclude categories from showing in Special:Random, you just add the category names to the variable, or a prefix that is shared with categories you don't want to show.

The extension only has the functionality to blacklist not whitelist, so you can't only whitelist some categories, you would have to blacklist everything else, which is unlikely to be practical.

I can't see any changes to Special:RandomPage that would cause it to break, so I have no idea.

Ok, I'll have to investigate that a bit then. Maybe there is some other extension at my wiki that that is interfering.
