Reading variables from the page in Extension:CiteThisPage

[edit]

When one uses CiteThisPage in a place like WikiSource which contains say content from the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - there is no way to make the CiteThisPage output reflect the actual author and publisher (and instead it says author "Wikisource authors" etc.). Would it be possible for it to be extended so that it reads certain predefined template variables in the page and allow customized output. Shyamal (talk) 09:04, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I too would like to know where and how I can amend the 'Author' and 'Publisher' fields please? Jenthescientist (talk) 16:18, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Agreed! A single-user private wiki does not have Project contributors, but should list the author's name instead. Nicole Sharp (talk) 12:26, 5 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Allow citing pages in other namespaces?

Is there a setting to allow "Cite This Page" to be available for pages in other namespaces such as "Category", or to be used with custom namespaces? ~ ErkDemon (talk) 11:20, 14 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Issue with MW 1.31

[edit]

After upgrading to MediaWiki 1.31, the special page "CiteThisPage" is empty. It shows just the page title, nothing else. How can I find out what is going wrong? AnonymusGdpr (talk) 17:32, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I used the special page ExtensionDistributor to download the extension CiteThisPage. The download for MW 1.31 does not work. The download for MW 1.30 works as expected. AnonymusGdpr (talk) 18:54, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Error messages at Special:CiteThisPage

[edit]

In version 1.31, when I go to the page Special:CiteThisPage, there are two error messages displayed on the page before I have a chance to enter anything into the input box. Maybe these messages are intended to be instructions to the user as to how to use the page, but the way the messages are displayed, it looks like error messages. If these messages are intentional, I would like to suggest removing the first message since it appears before any data has been entered into the input box. Good spot. Normally people arrive at the pre-filled target from the side bar, so it's less of an issue, but we don't currently have a way to fix it without damaging the UX in other ways. I've filed T213317 for this. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 18:08, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

cannot generate citation begining at the special page

[edit]

Version 1.32.1, if I try to get to this page from the lateral link, everything works as expected.

If I get there through Special:CiteThisPage, I get an error telling me :

Error: could not find any revision for the page "Http://miwiki.net/index.php/Bretaña" with the revision ID 0.

I have just installed it, so can anybody help me to find what is wrong?

Well, I tried the same thing here, at mediawiki.org, and gave me the same error. So, is it by design?

You can only get the reference from the page, not from the special page, Is that right? Amglez (talk) 20:04, 25 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

citations for single-user wikis

Is there a way to specify an author on "Special:CiteThisPage" for a wiki with only one author (one user)? Currently, the extension defaults to citing authorship as "Project contributors," which is in error if there is only one contributor (nonplural) on the wiki. Nicole Sharp (talk) 10:43, 3 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Find the "MediaWiki:Citethispage-content" page on your wiki and adapt the text to your needs. kgh (talk) 12:52, 3 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, how can a regional/national citation style be added? It is missing on the CiteThisPage styles list in Ukrainian Wikipedia Anntinomy (talk) 09:07, 22 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

You should change the intrawikilinks to Wikipedia interwikilinks for "MediaWiki:citethispage-content". Specifically:

 • APA styleAPA style
 • MLA styleMLA style
 • MHRA styleMHRA style
 • Chicago styleChicago style
 • CBE/CSE styleCBE/CSE style
 • Bluebook styleBluebook style
 • BibTeXBibTeX
 • LaTeXLaTeX

The Wikipedia interwikilinks can later be changed to local intrawikilinks if necessary, but it is not helpful upon the initial installation of MediaWiki to have a bunch of redlinks (dead links) without any explanation about what the different citation styles mean (which Wikipedia can do), especially to users outside of academia.

Nicole Sharp (talk) 13:23, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Note that all of the citation pages on MediaWiki.org also have dead links, and should be replaced with links to Wikipedia instead: https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:CiteThisPage&page=Extension%3ACiteThisPage&id=4909909&wpFormIdentifier=titleform

missing comma

[edit]

You are missing a comma after the parenthesis in:

 • "When using the LaTeX package url (<code>\usepackage{url}</code> somewhere in the preamble) which tends to give much more nicely formatted web addresses, the following may be preferred"
 • → "When using the LaTeX package url (<code>\usepackage{url}</code> somewhere in the preamble), which tends to give much more nicely formatted web addresses, the following may be preferred"

Font

[edit]

Would it be possible for the MLA text to be in 12pt Times New Roman? Much more useful for copy-and-paste. Bovlb (talk) 22:01, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
