Goal

The goal is stated briefly in the Engineering and Product Development Department Goals for the fiscal year under analytics.

Getting a breakdown of page views by project and adding the to the EEVS dashboard in Q1 is unlikely at this point so we need to scope down the goal:

Implement a prototype in hadoop to generate top level page view numbers.

Value Proposition

• This is our primary metric for monitoring readership of wikis
• We can eventually replace Comscore because they do not track all readers (including mobile and apps users)
• Gain experience on the backend so we can define the requirements for ETL and solidify the infrastructure (aka Refinery) to perform analytics and research on pages / images & gain.

Outcome

• program (script) for Hadoop
• TSV file with columns:
  • Day | Project  | Total Page views | Desktop Site Page views | Mobile Site Page views | API Pageviews |
  • (note that desktop+mobile+api add up to more than the total)
