Welcome aboard :-) --:Bdk: 20:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. --Flominator 20:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Flominator, I am trying to implement the FileIndex extension in my wiki but I do not know how to install the approrpiate indexing tools to the /usr/bin/ directory. There are no instructions on the extension page that explain how to do that. Would you be able to point me in the right direction or add some instructions on the extensions page for doing that? Thank you for your help --141.218.28.217 17:12, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

What kind of system do you have? Debian? Ubuntu? SuSe? unknown? --Flominator 06:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Flominator, I have a question... I want to add chat box above or below the copyrights, but I don't know how. Can you help me? --76.69.137.242 03:24, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't have a clue. Try Project:Support desk. --Flominator 09:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

MIME type detection[edit]

RE: Manual:Mime_type_detection#MIME_type_validation

I may misunderstand how the mime.types file is used. On the one hand it's a list of extensions which are allowed for a given MIME type; but since it says "vice versa," it's also used to map extensions to MIME types. In the least it's somewhat ambiguous, but it seemed to be better to specify the more specific MIME type rather than allow the "kludge" of ODF documents being identified as application/zip. --Eric Myers 15:44, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Eric, sorry for the late reply. The thing is, that ODF documents are in fact zip files. --Flominator 09:45, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Log Searches Extension[edit]

Possibly a wonderful extension. With the release of Mediawiki 1.13.x is it possible to update this extension and/or the instruction page? Greatly appreciated if possible. Thanks WW.

Quick Favour[edit]

Do you know the html equivalent for this {{PAGENAME}}. I am asking becuase my wiki page title doesn't appear on FaceBook so I was going to do a extension to all pages. Sachein 19:21, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, what you mean (if you are not talking about <title>). --Flominator 19:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

For example:

Wiki HTML
[[Cars]] <a href="/en/cars" title="Tea">Cars</a>
{{PAGENAME}} ???

Sachein 19:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know there is no such command in html. You could only try go the some parts of the title-tag via Javascript. --Flominator 12:29, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

FileIndexer failing[edit]

Hi,

  • Mediawiki 1.13.3
  • PHP 5.2.6-3ubuntu4.5 (apache2handler)
  • MySQL 5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2

I'm doing the following:

I go to the Special:FileIndexer page Copy the page name, e.g. Image:File.txt in the edit box Then do create,

I get the following:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Article::newfromid() in /var/lib/mediawiki/extensions/FileIndexer/FileIndexer_body.php on line 131

Is there a way that I can fix this?

Regards, Johannekie

Hi, I don't know, since I stopped working at the place, where I used MediaWiki and this extension. Please post your request at Extension talk:FileIndexer. Looks like they changed something in MediaWiki --Flominator 18:16, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply, I'll do so.

backup.sh[edit]

quick question, and i might just be nitpicking. in your backup script you have:

zip -r ./backup/${FNAME}.zip images/ ${FNAME}.sql LocalSettings.php extensions/ -x backup/

i was wanting to change zip to tar, since i'm a unix only person, but i was not quite understanding why you had the -x backup/. since backup/ isn't specified as one of the locations be downloaded, why then does it need to be excluded?

the command i was planning on using to substitute is:

tar -czvf ./backup/${FNAME}.tar.gz images/ ${FNAME}.sql LocalSettings.php extensions/

just double checking in case i'm missing something obvious.

Hi there, you are right. That one was from the days, when I added the whole directory to the archive. Thanks, --Flominator 06:55, 28 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you![edit]

Some baklava for you![edit]

Your backup.sh is greatly appreciated. However, I would like to move my mediawiki to another Raspberry Pi, not to a Windows PC. Have you, by any chance, written a restore.sh?

Thanks, SteveRMann SteveRMann (talk) 21:59, 21 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi SteveRMann, sorry for the late reply. It should not be that complex: Unzip everything and copy it over a new installed MediaWiki. Also import the mysql file and you're done. Good luck, --Flominator (talk) 16:55, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review[edit]

Hello,

I hope that this message finds you well.

A global policy regarding the removal of advanced permissions (e.g.: administrator, bureaucrat, interface-admin, etc.) from inactive user accounts was adopted by community consensus in 2013. I am writing to you today because, to the best of our knowledge, your account has advanced permissions in mediawiki.org and meets the inactivity criteria from the global policy mentioned above.

Please reply at this Village Pump topic if you wish to keep all or some of your advanced permissions. If the community supports your continued access, your permissions will be kept. To the contrary, if you wish to resign all or some of your advanced permissions, you may request a removal of permissions on Meta-Wiki.

Please note that if there is no response from you by 2023-03-26, your advanced permissions on mediawiki.org will be removed by the stewards without further notice. You may regaing them using the usual local process.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or feel free to message us at the stewards' noticeboard.
