[edit] Deleting vandalism

Thanks for showing me where Bugzilla is. I’ve sent them my comment. I’d now like to ask what can be done to simplify deleting vandalism. Most vandalism can be settled by reverting it. That leaves the vandalism in the Page History where it can be a bad example to other potential vandals.

Some vandalism is grossly obscene or includes cyberbullying. Such vandalism needs to be deleted from the page history so ordinary users can’t see it. The procedure is slow and complicated. First a sysop has to delete everything. Then the sysop has to restore, sometimes twenty or more edits just to remove one obscenity. If vandals have targeted the same page repeatedly the problem is worse. Then ideally every edit should be checked to see if it was constructive or vandalism. Obscenities may need to be reviewed. It would help if there were a simpler procedure for deleting one or a few bad edits.

I have experience with the determined vandals. I have noted how they focus their, usually limited intelligence onto upsetting users. Particularly they like to upset administrators who have blocked them in the past. Ordinary vandalism and page move vandalism is becoming easier to undo. I suspect vandals will therefore increasingly change tactics and force administrators to delete their material. I feel simplifying deletion will be needed increasingly in future.

Hmm. Really strange that it worked. I tried both both my own open OPENID server (wordpress plugin) and livejournal openid server. None worked.

Probably, myOpenID and phpMyID use some kind of backward compatibility features.

Anyway, since there are too serious bugs

 Separated Standard and OpenID login options

I really don't think anybody needs this. Also, I tried to improve extension, spent an hour on configuring in for my server, and finally failed because of dependency on DOM parser. Nobody uses that damn PHP extension.

I think I get what you mean... that Help:Images is a page intended for editors, whilst $wgForeignFileRepos may only be set by the wiki administrators. However, the lead of the article is incorrect:

This page explains the image syntax when editing the wiki. Before using images in your page, your wiki must have file uploads enabled (see the technical manual for details) and you have to upload a file.

”

Also, Manual:Image Administration is not helpful at all:

I made the addition since it took me ages to discover that the functionality was supported by MediaWiki at all. There are plenty of others who have requested for it, and none of the replies mentioned the existence of the FSRepo class, despite its obvious applicability for small or personal wikis. Thanks for the pointer. I agree with you that the details on configuration should not be on PD help pages, but I think it would still be helpful to leave a short note for end-users explaining the requisites for image use. Ideally, system administrators would create custom help pages explaining the facilities supported on their wiki installation (whether file uploads are enabled, which foreign repositories are supported); however, in practice, I find it more likely that they would either just copy the original PD help, or not include any at all. In both cases, users would end up resorting to our documentation to understand why they cannot get the image syntax to work. Since you said that the information is confusing "at the start of the help page", do you think it would be a fair compromise if we moved the requisites section to the end of the page, leaving your brief summary in the lead? • Open command prompt and run php install.php
  • Note that AdminSettings.php (in your root MediaWiki directory) will need to have a valid username and password set for access to the DB.

I installed the CheckUser.

Where do I find the Command Prompt? I am using phpMyAdmin

• PHP: 5.2.8 (cgi-fcgi)
• MySQL: 5.0.32-Debian_7etch8-log

I use the http://one.com to host my website so that means I am using third party server so I can't actually access the shell because One.com told me that for security reason they can't turn off safe mode.

What can I do? Please help.

I was the only current administrator on that wiki (my username is Petunia the skunk). I tested it out by blocking myself and guess what? The "$9" parameter did not do any effect! It did not work. Do you know anything about implementing SVG in a MediaWiki install?

I keep getting an error message: "Error creating thumbnail: convert: unable to open image `XMLID_21_) rgb(0, 0, 0': No such file or directory. convert: Non-conforming drawing primitive definition `fill'."

ImageMagick is installed on my server (hosted by 1and1.com and seems to be working). I have read Manual:Image_Administration#SVG and have done the steps there.

My localsettings.php file looks as thus:

The file, which is a copy of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gtk-dialog-info.svg, seems to display mostly correctly, but there are a few bugs. This leads me to assume that this bugs is one of the characteristics of using ImageMagick to view SVG files.

That's alright, I was able to talk a bit with user:Tim Starling. He recommended installing rsvg from http://librsvg.sourceforge.net/. I don't have Shell access right now, so that's apparently out of the question. Can't really justify $5 more a month right now (doesn't sound like a lot when you say it), though on the other hand I could finally do the /wiki/Main_Page URLs vs. w/index.php?title=Main_Page. Hi, I'm trying to import an xml file. I'm trying both importDump.php and Special:ImportPages (web). The problem is that the import script for an unknown reason won't recognize the gallery tag <gallery> I'm using to invoce images. Do you have any idea why is this happening? Finally I "escaped" the tag symbols and managed to perform the import.
