[6:13pm] <pfhayes>
tonyc_, delemieux2, did you get a chance to try testing out the app over the weekend?
[6:13pm] <yuvipanda>
since amgine isn't here, pfhayes can you make sure we log this?
[6:13pm] <pfhayes>
yeah I will take care of that
[6:13pm] <tonyc_>
i dont know if anyone else tried this, but the app does not work on my phone anymore
[6:13pm] <pfhayes>
what is the problem?
[6:13pm] <dlemieux2>
I did not get a chance to update
[6:14pm] <tonyc_>
since i updated to ICS, touching the screen no longer registers
[6:14pm] <tonyc_>
though its fine on the emulator
[6:14pm] <pfhayes>
ICS?
[6:14pm] <tonyc_>
android 4
[6:14pm] <pfhayes>
i see
[6:15pm] <dlemieux2>
tony. does it still show a homepage when it starts?
[6:15pm] <tonyc_>
it loads fine, i just cant do anything with the app
[6:15pm] <pfhayes>
hm
[6:15pm] <pfhayes>
does the wikipedia app work for you?
[6:15pm] <tonyc_>
it could just be me, im running a custom firmware
[6:15pm] <tonyc_>
hold on ill download it now
[6:16pm] <pfhayes>
okay
[6:17pm] <tonyc_>
works fine
[6:17pm] <pfhayes>
really
[6:17pm] <pfhayes>
but this is the one from the android market?
[6:17pm] <tonyc_>
yeah
[6:17pm] <pfhayes>
try building the wikipedia app from source and installing it like that
[6:18pm] <pfhayes>
touches not registering is a bit of a strange problem - that would be weird to be caused by something wiktionary specific
[6:18pm] <pfhayes>
especially if it works in the emulator
[6:18pm] <pfhayes>
maybe dlemieux can try installing it on his phone?
[6:19pm] <dlemieux2>
wiktionary has never worked on my phone. it always reports that no internet connection is available
[6:20pm] <pfhayes>
both of you should try building wikipedia from source and installing it on your phones. if it doesn't work, then it's most likely your phones. if it does, then we have a problem to worry about with wiktionary
[6:21pm] <pfhayes>
but tonyc_, you said you got to test it in the emulator?
[6:21pm] <dlemieux2>
sure thing. i think i'll also spend some time trying to debug my connectivity issue in my tasks for next week rather than just using the emulator
[6:21pm] <tonyc_>
yeah it works fine on the emulator
[6:22pm] <pfhayes>
yeah i found that it works pretty well on the emulator too
[6:22pm] <pfhayes>
there were a couple bugs, but i thought it was stable enough for a beta release. what about you tonyc_
[6:23pm] <tonyc_>
i would prefer to get it tested on my phone, but if it works like in the emulator then its fine
[6:24pm] <tonyc_>
for example i found if you called updateMenuState twice in rapid succession it would cause the jumbled up menu, but that was only because the emulator was so slow
[6:25pm] <pfhayes>
i see
[6:26pm] <pfhayes>
yeah, these are definitely bugs we need to fix before a real release, but i think it's stable enough for a beta
[6:26pm]
heatherw joined the chat room.
[6:26pm] <pfhayes>
i sent out a list of a few bugs, tonyc_ i saw you fixed one already, and dlemieux told me he took a look at it too
[6:27pm] <pfhayes>
once tfinc gets back to us about app branding, we should be good to go for a beta release, and we can then spend time on fixing up the bugs we find in beta before our real release
[6:27pm] <tonyc_>
sounds good!
[6:28pm] <pfhayes>
yuvipanda any thoughts?
[6:28pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: they can also just get the beta
[6:28pm] <yuvipanda>
apk and try it out
[6:28pm] <pfhayes>
who can?
[6:29pm]
heatherw left the chat room. (Client Quit)
[6:29pm] <yuvipanda>
tonyc_: we fixed the updateMenuState bug in a while
[6:29pm] <yuvipanda>
*a while ago
[6:29pm]
heatherw joined the chat room.
[6:29pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: dlemieux2 and tonyc_
[6:29pm] <yuvipanda>
no need to build the wikipedia app from source
[6:29pm] <pfhayes>
i see
[6:30pm] <tonyc_>
i know, i caused the jumbling to happen myself when i was messing around with the menus
[6:30pm] <yuvipanda>
tonyc_: it was fixed on friday, I believe
[6:30pm] <dlemieux2>
where do we get those apk files from?
[6:31pm] <yuvipanda>
you guys should subscribe to mobile-l
[6:31pm] <yuvipanda>
:D
[6:31pm] <yuvipanda>
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mobile-l/2012-March/005414.html
[6:32pm] <pfhayes>
any other concerns, anyone?
[6:33pm] <tonyc_>
i think we are still waiting on some translations and icons
[6:34pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: did you talk to siebrand/nikerabbit on setting up translations?
[6:34pm] <yuvipanda>
it is IMO okay to do betas without them
[6:35pm] <pfhayes>
i didn't, tonyc_ did you?
[6:36pm] <tonyc_>
nope
[6:36pm]
Amgine left the chat room. (Read error: Operation timed out)
[6:36pm] <dlemieux2>
we still want to update that icon beside the search bar when an agreement is made on what it should be
[6:36pm] <tonyc_>
do you mean the W?
[6:36pm] <dlemieux2>
yes
[6:37pm] <pfhayes>
who are we waiting on for translations/icons?
[6:37pm] <tonyc_>
i emailed heather over the weekend for an audio icon, so that should be coming soon
[6:38pm] <pfhayes>
what about translations? i can talk to siebrand or nikerabbit if nobody is already on that
[6:39pm] <pfhayes>
cool i will do that
[6:40pm] <pfhayes>
i also sent a reminder to tfinc about branding
[6:40pm] <tonyc_>
i will find some people at school with android phones to test on, hopefully its just me
[6:41pm] <pfhayes>
yuvipanda: so it looks like what we are missing is some of the icons/branding, some translations, and there are couple minor bugs. is that still good for a beta release?
[6:41pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: what kinda icons?
[6:42pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: did you raid the android default icons?
[6:42pm] <pfhayes>
dlemieux2 can answer that i think
[6:42pm] <yuvipanda>
there are plenty of Icons there, i'm sure you can find one for 'sound'?
[6:45pm] <pfhayes>
i believe the only icons we are missing is the 'listen in' menu icon, and the search bar icon, which according to dlemieux2 there is no consensus on yet
[6:46pm] <yuvipanda>
pfhayes: well, 'no consensus' is fine, and 'listen in' - check the android default icon set
[6:46pm] <yuvipanda>
i'm sure you can find something appropriate there
[6:46pm] <pfhayes>
cool
[6:46pm] <heatherw>
hey y'all if you're gonna pick an icon from somewhere, please let me know
[6:47pm] <heatherw>
:)
[6:48pm] <pfhayes>
dlemieux2 is looking at icons now - can you put in an audio icon, and fix up the search bar icon, and then I think we are okay?
[6:49pm]
Amgine joined the chat room.
[6:49pm] <pfhayes>
hi Amgine
[6:49pm] <dlemieux2>
there is a list here that we might be able to use http://androiddrawableexplorer.appspot.com/
[6:49pm] <yuvipanda>
dlemieux2: it's not complete.
[6:49pm] <yuvipanda>
go inside your android sdk folder, you'll find a folder calld 'platforms'
[6:49pm] <dlemieux2>
the ic_volume looks right
[6:50pm] <yuvipanda>
inside that you'll have all the icons under res/drawable-*
[6:50pm] <dlemieux2>
yep. they are in the sdk. i used the site to browse them
[6:50pm] <yuvipanda>
okay
[6:52pm] <tonyc_>
so we can freely use these icons? ic_lock_silent_mode_off looks good
[6:52pm] <pfhayes>
tonyc_ can you submit a patch for the audio icon? then i think at that point we'll be good to go for beta release
[6:53pm] <tonyc_>
im actually not sure how icons work
[6:54pm] <pfhayes>
try to look at how the other menu items use their icons, or ask around in #wikimedia-mobile
[6:55pm] <tonyc_>
yep will do
[6:55pm] <pfhayes>
cool thanks
[6:55pm] <pfhayes>
alright, so i will talk to the translation folks, tonyc_ will get an audio icon, and tonyc_ and dlemieux2 will try to test the app on their phones
[6:56pm] <pfhayes>
any other issues? tonyc_ dlemieux2 yuvipanda Amgine ?
[6:56pm] <yuvipanda>
so far so good.
[6:56pm] <yuvipanda>
is Amgine even around?
[6:56pm] <pfhayes>
i don't think so
[6:57pm] <tonyc_>
im in new york the rest of the week so i might not make the friday standup if i cant find internet
[6:57pm] <pfhayes>
sure thing
[6:57pm] <pfhayes>
dlemieux2 says he is good too
[6:57pm] <pfhayes>
good meeting everyone
