Phabricator username limitations

I was going to create my Phabricator account following the steps on this page, but I have failed to do so. I have tried to preserve my MediaWiki account username Toliño,however the system sends me an error message:

Usernames must contain only numbers, letters, period, underscore and hyphen, and can not end with a period. They must have no more than 64 characters.

It seems that "ñ" character is not accepted. Is it planned to have this fixed in the near future or do I have to registrer with a variant of my habitual username?

I encountered the same message; I solved it in my case by mapping 'space' to underscore '_'. As you can see by our two examples, Phabricator does not care about the names in Mediawiki. They can have alternative character sets.

Hi, we asked the upstream developers for reasons and the answer is in https://secure.phabricator.com/T6003 - in short, "we are unlikely to support this" and a number of reasons is listed in that ticket.

In case it helps, the Name field allows more characters, so you still can show your actual name there. This problem was discussed in phab:T375.

I tried to sign up for Phabricator by connecting my logged-in Wikimedia SUL account. "Creating your account" (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Help#Creating_your_account) states: "In case of doubt, just use your Wikimedia username." But I got "Usernames must contain only numbers, letters, period, underscore and hyphen, and can not end with a period. They must have no more than 64 characters." For Phabricator sign-ups through MediaWiki OAuth, I recommend changing ASCII spaces to ASCII underscores when automatically populating the Phabricator username.
