VisualEditor taking up too much CPU usage and very slow

Hi ,

I have a problem with VisualEditor when editing on the English Wikibooks. First , it is too slow to display text which I am typing. It shows it in a slow and slideshow speed. Looks like it's quite slow. And , on Task Manager , it shows that it is using one and only 1 full(utilizes 100% CPU for that) thread for this. It stays at full utilization when I'm typing and becomes very slow. I'm using Internet Explorer 11.

I tested as an anonymous user at b:Entrepreneur’s_Guide_to_Business_Law and worked fine for me (couldn't notice any difference from say, typing this message). Can you make an example of a page where VE is too slow for you? Thanks.

On .
Today it was a little better , but still slow.
When testing using Performance Dashboard , it stays at 5-15% during idle and while typing , it spikes to 50-55% of total CPU usage.
Also , whenever I try to delete a character , it jumps to the beginning. This is quite annoying.
EDIT :- Is my specs too little? Running on a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2Ghz and 4GB DDR2 with Windows 8.1 tested.
EDIT 2:- It sometimes works well , but not most of the time.

Thanks for the link. That one works okay for me in Safari on a Mac, so there's probably nothing wrong with the page itself. Do you get the same behavior if you quit and restart, and clear the cache in your web browser?

I think that User:Catrope will be interested in this, since he did much of the work on VisualEditor for Internet Explorer.

Today it was somewhat better than before , but still not fully okay.
For instance , it can get about 30-40% properly. When typing bursts of random letters or even normal words , it slows down. Compare this to 'dropped frames' in a game.
The first time I tried out , it worked properly, but not since then.

Even though the slowness problem has reduced , the other problem is that whenever I delete a character or create a heading(all) , it jumps to the starting.

This is quite annoying.

I'm sorry that this problem is affecting you. It sounds very annoying.

Can you tell me whether the problem happens to you at other projects? You can use Project:Sandbox here at MediaWiki for testing. Also, do you have the same problem when you are logged out? This URL will let you open the page while logged out: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Entrepreneur’s_Guide_to_Business_Law?veaction=edit

Thanks, Leaderboard, for your efforts to help us figure out what's going on here. I really appreciate your persistence with it.

Yes , it still happens on both links.
Once some text(equivalent to a page) has been added to the sandbox, this problem starts to happen.
On the other link , the problem happens immediately(since there's enough text).

Hi Leaderboard,

I've split your issues into two bugs: the bad performance problem and the jumping cursor problem. They sounded like separate problems to me.

Because so many staff take holiday at the end of December, there will be a general code freeze. (They don't want to release new, and therefore possibly broken, bug fixes when there aren't many people around to fix any problems that result.) It's therefore possible that the solution for these problems won't actually reach you until early January.

Thank you again for taking the time to post all of this useful information. I really appreciate it.

A clarification:- It is not the cursor , it is the page itself which jumps to the starting.
