I like the new media resize. I would propose extending it with some type of snap-functionality.

  • So while dragging, I would snap to 5 or 10px dimensions, and only allow overriding this in the dialog.
  • After dragging, I would present two or three hover buttons (default, large, larger), in addition to the drag point.

Have you tried shift-dragging it? That should let you re-size in 10px increments.

Potentially we could invert the 'standard' operation (so dragging locks to 10px increments, but shift-dragging does at 1px increments). Not sure if this would be too confusing.

TheDJ: When you say "two or three hover buttons (default, large, larger), in addition to the drag point", do you mean prompting people to "correct" the size they just adjusted to one of three standard sizes?

I like the idea of inverting the drag-to-resize feature, and I think people would adapt to it.

  • What would happen with an image that started off at 123px? Would it drag to 130px or to 133px next?
  • How does this interact with upright sizing (which is still in early stages)?

That's what I meant James. I also think that inverting the operation is logical. (who needs pixel accuracy ?)

I find it (the 10 pixels increments) extremely unnecessary. Is there any reason to do this, other than relieving your OCD? The image quality is not affected and the page layout is restricted. I don't see why anyone would want this.

Most people are trying to make images the same size as other images on a page, and if they all snap to the same numbers, then that's easier to do.
