Find and 'dismiss' find

Completely by chance I pressed the "find" [Command+F (I'm on a Mac)] function while within the Visual Editor. I had expected to access the find feature of the Browser but instead it accessed the feature within media-wiki - I didn't even know this was part of Visual Editor. Cool! Nicely done. A Find/replace tool appeared from the top of the mediawiki area and it worked well (if slowly). However, when I had found what I was looking for - I couldn't see an easy way to dismiss the find function and return to editing. The only way i was able to dismiss the find/replace tool was to use Command+F again. So, my feedback is that I didn't know that find/replace existed, and can't immediately see how to dismiss it once it's activated - in short: the on/off button for the tool is not visible :-) Wittylama (talk) 23:54, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Addressing only a few points here, the most common key to dismiss anything, Esc, works for me. Check if it does so for you as well? (This was mentioned in the VisualEditor newsletter delivered later to your talk on en.wp.) Best,

The Escape key also works. However, you probably won't learn that until you start desperately trying anything to get rid of that (slow) search function.

Inadvertent launching the find-function crashed my Firefox... Also, I don't see so much the added value over the native browser find?

Well this can do much more than the native browser find. It's handy if you want to replace some typos for example. Of course it's not like Notepad++ and when you run it on browser it's much slower than external program and may crash easily if you try to do some big changes.

It should be much faster now on mediawiki.org amd soon at the other projects.
