Thanks Emu Farmers, i've already looked into that but the idea is to have a notification for changes on their watch list (which includes other user's talk pages) without emailing the user. This setting emails you. Which extension provides "Special:NewMessages", perhaps it's part of this forum extension? The "my new messages" is exactly what i'm after.
