But, as usual, the instructions for that extension are virtually useless.

Through trial and error I finally figured out how to insert only ONE url, not four, and to link it to the page I want without the "username" attached.

But, still have one problem. The link Admin Panel renders on the menu array as:

&ltAdmin Panel&gt

How do I get rid of the &lt and &gt

I'm not sure of all the details of that hook myself. I would have experimented with it a bit first, but I didn't have access to my test wiki.

Rather than directly entering the text you want displayed, you need to enter the name of the message that contains the desired text. So instead of "Admin Panel", you could use something like "admin-panel" and enter the desired text on the MediaWiki:Admin-panel page.
