Release notes links[edit]

are the release note links not working for anyone else?

PHP 4.0.3 Support[edit]

Which version of MediaWiki is OK with PHP 4.0.3?

None. --Brion VIBBER 22:35, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Any PHP 4 Support?[edit]

I'm wading through release notes to try and find out which version will support PHP 4.3.2. Some clearer identification of PHP requirements would be SO helpful.

PHP 5 support has been required since MediaWiki 1.7 - if you are using an older version of PHP and cannot upgrade then you should use MediaWiki 1.6.10 (cf. Installation) --Xypron 19:08, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad I thought to check here for that; I was getting frustrated... lol. --beeurd

Updater for MediaWiki 1.6[edit]

Is an updater available for converting the database from 1.5.* to 1.6? Or any hints on how to do that manually?
Same question. --Peer
No; you may find some hints on Help:Upgrading MediaWiki, but you should better ask directly on IRC for help. Note: In any case, backup the database first! --:Bdk: 18:01, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
See the file UPGRADE. --Brion VIBBER 22:35, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
The upgrade info is found at Upgrading to 1.6. This seems to be most important and should be added to the main page. - JohnE

Database Backup[edit]

Surely it is easier to use phpMyAdmin to backup the MySQL database if it is already available to the user, for example, from your ISP. This seems much simpler and is ready to go right now, rather than having to struggle with the poor documentation for MySQL dump utility. I could be completely wrong here, so I defer to any experts out there. - JohnE

If you want, and if it works, sure. Me, I'd have to first obtain this third-party utility, figure out how to install it, install it, figure out how to use it, figure out how to get the data without corrupting it, etc. Far easier to use a standard utility with a nice convenient man page. But that's just me. :) --Brion VIBBER 06:10, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Date of 1.4.15 release[edit]

I was very surprised that the 1.4.xx branch last security version was released in 2005. And after some check, the year is not correct :)

Correct. Somebody please fix the date in 1.4.15 released on 2005-03-26 to 2006. I would have done it by myself, but the page is write protected.

Do locked down wikis need upgrading?[edit]

I'm currently running version 1.6.5. Only myself and trusted friends have accounts and only account holders may edit. I notice that the last two 1.6.x revisions are for XSS and javascript injection. Given this, do I really need to upgrade? It seems to me (but I could be wrong) that these only vulnerabilities are only a problem if untrustworthy individuals get write acess.

I hope I'm safe, because I really don't want to do all that again. What with database backups, copying the images directory, synching the new LocalSetting.php file with all my customisations (thank you Compare It), doing the chmods and updating the .htaccess.

Many thanks. --82.153.101.38 21:17, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

1.7.3 and 1.8.4 missing[edit]

why is 1.7.3 and 1.8.4 missing? --84.148.195.59 05:22, 9 May 2007 (UTC) (Sebastian Mendel)Reply

md5 hashes?[edit]

Could you please add md5 hashes for the download section, so that we can verify that the files arrive intact? --Jason S 15:46, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

1.12 release date?[edit]

Current stable release[edit]

This page and Download conflict with each other as to which release is the Current stable release (1.12rc1 or 1.11.x) 24.56.202.227 00:58, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

1.12rc1 has "rc" status, i.e. it's a release candidate (aka beta release). It's the latest bundle you can get, but it's not quite considered stable. Also, 1.12 has reached rc state only since a few days, and 1.12.0 proper will be released in a few more days, so expect pages to contradict each other for a while, until all is sorted out. -- Duesentrieb 12:24, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
