Permissions changes

I'd like to suggest we make the following permissions changes:

Change: Import & Uploader rights, assignable and revocable by either local bureaucrats or admins. The exact configuration should be discussed prior to request.

Rationale: This page is reviewed quite often by MediaWiki bureaucrats. Potentially, we can reduce the workload we put on Stewards.

Why Uploaders? Special:ListGroupRights states that autoconfirmed users can upload files locally anyway. As for Importers... I requested mine thinking I could import stuff from help.wikia, but 90% of the stuff there is pretty much copied and rewritten from here and the other 10% has to do with custom wikia extensions/skins/etc., so there really isn't anything there to import. I haven't found anything elsewhere that would be worth importing here, either. --Skizzerz 23:49, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree with Importers, it will be easier if that right could be assigned and removed by the local crats but I'm not sure what Uploader right is?..Don't auto-confirmed users already have that right? ...--Cometstyles 10:20, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Uploaders is for people who we trust to do uploading but haven't made it to autoconfirmed yet. As far as Wikia extensions goes, I'd really like to see more of them brought here, if Wikia's willing to share. :D Kylu 08:07, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, Wikia has an open subversion, the only issue is that they have so many dependencies on various core hacks or other custom things Wikia uses... which makes it difficult for end users to install on a vanilla mediawiki. Plus, would it kill someone to make ten edits and wait a few days before uploading something? I really don't see the point in this, since the Uploaders group was meant for wikis that have uploading disabled in lieu of using commons instead (iirc). --Skizzerz 17:36, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
