  • Upload Wizard as our next big project
    • Research: collect and analyze metrics, feedback
    • Development: bug fixes, triage, code review
    • Planning: determine product plan for next 4 months
  • Annual Planning: Determine quarterly goals for next fiscal year

Key Events / Topics for This Week[edit]

  • Next Friday, June 6, Mark will be out of town, but this sprint is full capacity
  • Gergo is on vacation this Friday, May 28
  • June 2-13, Pau will be in town.

Review work of previous week and demo it[edit]

10-15 minutes

Demoable new things:

As expected and desired, we're not doing as much feature development and it's mostly bugfixes behind the scenes and tech debt payback. Good job y'all.

Metrics + Community[edit]

Review high priority bugs/issues that need attention[edit]

5-10 minutes as needed

Media Viewer[edit]

New approach for helping users view and download original files - new tickets need to be estimated and prioritized: Open 'Use this file' panel on hover (#662) Put "Download" as the first tab of the "use" panel (#665) Make "preview" shortcut more meaningful (#664) Remember the last selection of the reuse menu (share, embed or download) (#660) Keep the reuse menu open when switching between files (#661) Keep the metadata panel position when switching between files (#501)

Related: No way to download original file when the thumbnails have a different file type (#470) (related bug we should address anyway) Show attribution credits in download tool (#598) Show larger Commons icon (#583)

Upload Wizard[edit]

forces people to use the old upload interface for various basic things like reuploading deleted files

Sprint Retrospective[edit]

15-30 minutes

  • Keep doing
    • Took on more technical debt
    • Progress on GW Toolset
    • First steps towards plannning Upload Wizard
    • Happy with community relationship, seems very productive
    • Keep inviiting great contributors like Brian and Neil to work with us
  • Stop doing/do better
    • No out-of-focus points this week, should pay attention
    • Make sure that all team members have something to do in each sprint (e.g. Mark has front-end work)
  • Suggested improvements
    • Remove 'design needed' tags when no new design is needed for a card
    • Change card status when a task has been completed
    • Hard to find out about core changes that are important
    • More regular new bug triages (whomever is out of focus that week should do it)
    • Schedule time to do past bug triage
    • Move over important bugs to Mingle for now
    • Consider using Phabricator as a first trial for non-Media Viewer bugs, if stable enough
  • Show appreciation
    • Gilles > Fab: Thanks for finding a good time to meet with Wikidata team
    • Fab > Team: Thanks for finding a practical resolution to the 'View original file' issues
    • Gergo > Mark: Thanks for all the hard work on critical Upload Wizard bugs
    • Gilles > Team: Thanks for responding to the community
    • Mark > Fab: Thanks for organizing the Upload Wizard meeting, turned out well
    • Gergo > Gilles: Thanks for being firm about the need for upload pipeline unit tests
    • Fab > Pau: Thanks for the rapid response with design solutions to MV issues, very granular tickets
    • Gilles > Pau: Thanks for great upload wizard design work, provides a vision to keep us focused, even if we can't implement it all right away
