This is the latest alpha version of MediaWiki.
Starting in April 2012, the Wikimedia Foundation is aiming to deploy MediaWiki to its projects more often (and almost directly from the master branch) through incremental "wmf"-branches within the 1.20 release cycle (1.20wmf1 (the version currently in use on this wiki), 1.20wmf2, and so on). The 1.20.0 stable tarball is expected to come out in summer or fall of 2012 (but one can also stay current on the bleeding-edge through git master).

The MediaWiki 1.20 release will bundle all the changes included in the smaller, semi-monthly 1.20wmfX software deployments to Wikimedia sites:
- MediaWiki 1.20/wmf4 - To be deployed in May and June 2012
- MediaWiki 1.20/wmf3 - To be deployed in May 2012 (deployed to some wikis, others coming soon)
- MediaWiki 1.20/wmf2 - Deployed in May 2012
- MediaWiki 1.20/wmf1 - Deployed in April 2012 (see overview of changes)
In particular:
- New diff view, greatly improved in clarity especially for whitespace and other small changes and colour-blind users.
