Our downloads are in .tar.gz format. If you are on Windows, you can use 7-zip to decompress them.

MediaWiki requires PHP 5 and either MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite. For more information please read the system requirements.

Latest development version

If you want to run on the latest development version, you either have to use subversion or download nightly dump.

PHP 4

MediaWiki requires PHP 5. If you are using PHP 4, upgrade now! It's no longer supported by the PHP group, and has lots of bugs.

Many shared hosting providers offer both PHP 4 and PHP 5, running simultaneously. Ask your provider if they can do this.

If for some reason, you really really need to run MediaWiki on PHP 4, you should use the MediaWiki 1.6.x branch from 2006:

• Download PHP 4 compatible MediaWiki (1.6.12)
