Add Media Wizard feedback / issues[edit]

--68.123.28.61 06:28, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Ubuntu Intrepid, Firefox 3.0.7 - Enabled extension, couldn't find the link to add media on a random page at first. Figured it out, had to click "edit" first. Mouseover the film reel icon, no mouseover text to explain what the film reel does. Clicked film reel. Confused about search function, typing something obscure (netherland dwarf) brings up no results--should display text that says, "no results for netherland dwarf." Searched for "Cat" and inserted kitty. Very easy from there. Thanks for making this, really cool!Reply

I think these are very basic things that should be easily added.--Diaa abdelmoneim 10:18, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

* added no results msg (when there are no results)
* added title text to add media wizard

Great work on the title text but the no results msg doesn't seem to work. If you search for fgfghf in commons, archive or metavid it doesn't show the message. (Maybe the problem lies in the test wikipedia)--Diaa abdelmoneim 16:23, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Things to do[edit]

Commons[edit]

  1. Add Category search
    • there are a few ways this could be added in.. I am thinking autocomplete on the main search input lists possible categories you can query against, and basic search results parse out all the categories and list
  2. Enable Syntax grabbing in List view. Something like:
    • this is kind of tricky but I will see what I can hack up. Would be nice if we had a good js wikitext parser ;)
Summary
== Licensing: == PD-self

Would become:

  • Description:This is a test image name for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Map.
  • Source: Self-made
  • Author: User:Goodshoped35110s (with a link to him on Commons)
  • Permission: Public Domain
  • Categories: Bay Area Rapid Transit (with linking to the category relying on Commons first thing to do.)

More things to do[edit]

Yes Done

it should show a loading animation ... what browser are you using? Mdale 21:27, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
It works now somehow. I tried it in IE8 and Firefox 3.5 beta everything works fine.--Diaa abdelmoneim 10:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Box Layout (suggestions)[edit]

I think the following would improve the Box layout a lot.--Diaa abdelmoneim 10:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • The box layout should have bigger boxes, which fill the whole page. (double the size) I have a resolution of 1440*900 and the images look really tiny. The purpose of the box layout is to view the images in a bigger box.
  • The box layout would look better if the image names are added under each box (as short/long as the box)

Small bugs[edit]

fixed 1-3 but 4 is not possible given the search results api system -Mdale

First of all I want to thank you for all the improvements you've made to the tool. I like everything in the media wizard, like the new skin and the upload button. So thank you mdale for all the great features of Add Media Wizard. There are however small bugs or mistakes that could be easily fixed:

  1. First thing is a small spelling mistake, it says "Results from Wikipedia Commons", while it should say "Results from Wikimedia Commons".
  2. After choosing an image from commons it gives you a bigger preview and the option to crop the image, which is all good and well. However, if you hover over the image it shows a hand as if the image is click able, which it isn't. After clicking "crop" and "reset crop" it shows a normal cursor again when hovering over the image.
  3. When one clicks "preview insert" after choosing the image it shows "File:Unidentified" where the image should be. This also happens when inserting the image.
  4. Currently the Commons Gallery shows "Results 1 to 30", I was wondering if it could also show how many results there are like "Results 1 - 30 of 100"

Thanks again for everything.--Diaa abdelmoneim 19:48, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
