Extension Localisation Wiki using Translate/Beginning Localisation
From MediaWiki.org
Localisation may now begin.
To start, navigate to the page Special:Translate and press the edit button beside the extension that you want to translate.
[edit] Selecting Messages
There are four boxes shown on the default view:
- I want to
- Select the list of messages that are shown to you, by default only untranslated messages are listed but there are a variety of other choices that can be used.
- Group
- Select which extension you will view messages for, this should be pre-filled from the first page where you selected an extension.
- Language
- Determines the language that you will be viewing messages for, generally you should set this to the language you are translating in.
- Limit
- Defines the number of messages that you will view on each page, useful under some circumstances such as being on a slow connection.
To continue, press "Fetch".
[edit] Translating
Once a list of messages is displayed, you begin translating by clicking on the name of a message. When you arrive on the page there will be two boxes above the edit area:
- Message information
- If available some documentation will be available about the message, such as where it is used and any parameters it has.
- Original message
- The original message that you will be translating.
You should translate the original message in to the edit box, then save the page like you would when editing a regular page. Care should be taken to ensure that messages are translated and not adapted.
Return to the translate special page and select another message to translate.
[edit] Improving efficiency
- The process of jumping back and forward between pages can become quite tedious, to reduce this you could open several messages in different tabs and then close them one by one as you translate each.
