VLC 
crashy, no built-in controls
Kaffeine 0.8.6 with xine
totally broken. Plays a few seconds and then stops, navigating away or closing will freeze the browser. Same in standalone player.
Kaffeine 0.8.6 with gstreamer
launches the standalone player, which works in full screen or minimal mode, not otherwise. Sometimes complains about the audio device already being open, for no apparent reason.
QuickTime/XiphQT 
sometimes the video stops and it needs pausing/resuming to get it going again

  • VLC: Broken, "Plug-in 12308 is not responding. It will be closed"
  • Cortado: Temperamental. Sometimes just shows a big grey box.

  • Cortado: works

Opera 9.52 July labs build on Windows XP:

  • video element: kind of works with innerHTML method, changing players leaves the sound going until you navigate away.

  • Cortado: Mostly works, crash and "big grey box" observed by clicking links at inopportune times
  • VLC: mostly works, lockup observed when navigating away

  • Cortado: Temperamental. Sometimes fails to load the applet.

  • Cortado: works

  • video element: broken, plays a few seconds of video and then stops, audio continues. Pausing and resuming will show you a few frames more.
