Andres Obrero wrote an extension to use gallery2 as a backend in MediaWiki see:
Gallery2 extension (Only archived archive.org version available yet)
The extension has been updated to work with MediaWiki 1.10 and gallery2 2 (see also MediaWiki's gallery tag.)
