Purpose[edit | edit source]
One of the challenges faced by users new to Mediawiki is locating the information for which they are looking. Most users are familiar with organizing information in a file system using directory trees. Although MediaWiki offers categories to group related information, navigating categories can still be a challenge for new users. The CategoryTree extension aids this process, but using the extension requires navigating away from the article the user is reading or editing.
- Help users navigate the wiki by providing an interface that is familiar, accessible from any page, and persistent throughout a session.
- Help gardeners manage the category tree structure and identify incorrectly categorized pages.
- Show users where they are, where they've been, and where they can go.
