On this page you can report bugs in the MathML support in Gecko-based browsers (such as the Mozilla suite, Firefox, and Netscape) which are relevant to blahtex.

Actually, what you should really do is report the bug on Mozilla's own comprehensive bug-reporting system, and then add the relevant bug ID, and a short summary, to the following list:

  • 114365: incomplete support for mathvariant, especially for the fraktur, bold-fraktur, script, bold-script, double-struck values. Having this fixed would save us a lot of pain regarding plane-1 characters. MathPlayer appears to have good mathvariant support.
  • 321438: issues regarding phi vs varphi
  • 320294: inter-token spacing issues when using MathML version 1.x font attributes
  • 236963: stretchy symbols sometimes not stretching inside table cells, or maybe gecko not correctly inferring an mrow inside the mtd. Blahtex has a workaround (look for MOZILLA_BUG_236963_WORKAROUND in the blahtex source code).
  • 314225: symbols "is a normal subgroup of" and "contains as a normal subgroup" (unicode U22B2 and U22B3) are switched on windows. Actually this is a bug in one font, but perhaps gecko should try to work around it?
  • 330964: unsupport <mtable> "rowspacing" attribute. This makes \substack looks wrong.

Fairly self-explanatory. Of course the general "combining characters don't work so well" bug has been reported many times at bugzilla.mozilla, but this particular character is very useful in MathML. Dmharvey 17:09, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] \sqrt problems?

Am I the only one for whom \sqrt is totally broken? I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.3.

I assume the pic on the left is under Windows. That's very interesting, because it looks exactly like a problem that a lot of people reported on the mac version of Firefox, although it's fixed on the mac now. I recall it was a problem related to fonts. I've just checked Firefox 1.5.0.1 on a windows system here, and everything looked good here. Do you have any idea how your fonts are set up? I guess it's possible the bug got introduced between 1.5.0.1 and 1.5.0.3.
Also, I'm curious about the broken-looking bitmap on the IE version. That's very puzzling. Do you have any idea if IE is trying to rescale the image or something? I don't think there's any scaling in the HTML. Dmharvey 17:27, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I had the same problem as the picture on the left (Firefox under Linux, I think it was a pre-1.5 version). I fixed it by installing some extra fonts. Did you install the Mathematica and TeX fonts, as explained on http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/fonts/ ? -- Jitse Niesen 14:37, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
I had the same problem on Firefox until I installed the extra fonts. Do you think that those fonts can be included by default in the future releases of Firefox? 12:26, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
No, the current set of fonts can't be installed by default because of licensing restrictions. I spoke to the firefox developers some time ago about this and that was their response. However, there are a new set of fonts being developed by the STIX project (http://www.stixfonts.com) which will be allowed to be installed in firefox (and other software) by default. When that happens, and when the firefox people get those new fonts integrated, it will be a big step forward for MathML. But I don't think that's any reason for us to sit around now and wait. [edit] \sqrt over \frac

When using \sqrt over fractions, only the numerator and a bit of the denominator is contained inside of the square root instead of the entire fraction, making it ambiguous whether the sqrt covers the whole fraction or just the numerator (unless you have a standard for comparison, as shown below) Mets501 17:04, 18 June 2006 (UTC) File:BlahTeXsqrt.png

Yes, it is a browser issue, it's wrong on Firefox 1.5.0.4 but good on IE (I use WinXP, BTW). We should tell the Firefox developers about that, though, because it's really ambiguous the way it's displayed now. Mets501 01:25, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

OK, it would be best if you report this to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ yourself, because I can't reproduce it on my system (on Mac OS, with either Firefox 1.5.0.2 or 1.5.0.4, and also win XP, either Firefox 1.5.0.1 or 1.5.0.4). Here's a few things to check before reporting it:
