Empty page page
From MediaWiki.org
This page was recently moved from MetaWiki.
It probably requires cleanup – please feel free to help out. In addition, some links on the page may be red; respective pages might be found at Meta. Remove this template once cleanup is complete.
From time to time it's been suggested that we might have something better than "(There is currently no text in this page)" to say if somebody happens to link directly to a page that doesn't exist. (Say, because it's been deleted, or their link is misspelled, or whatever.) Here's a prototype of what such an empty page page might look like; feel free to edit it directly, and comment parenthetically or in the talk page.

[edit] New Page Form
Please see writing new Wikipedia articles for more information.
Choose one:
- [O] Foobar bizbax redirects to the Wikipedia article titled [[[___________]]] - (Please enter the title of the Wikipedia article that "Foobar bizbax" should refer to.)
- [O] Please write the first sentence of your article using Foobar bizbax. (This can be edited later.)
-
- [[[________________]]] Foobar bizbax [[[_______________________]]].
- Then write the rest of your article below. (This will follow the first sentence of your article and can be edited later.)
- [[[_____________________________________________________________________]]]
- Submit | Cancel
As a check, the first sentence gets put into the Summary field.
Advantages:
- This page makes all new articles have a formal layout.
- May make unintentional errors more difficult to escape notice.
- Giberish becomes far easier to spot on the recent changes page.
- The quality of the first sentence can be judged.
- Page creators have to think a bit more about creating a page.
Disadvantages:
- Page creators have to think a bit more about creating a page.
- Makes new page creation more difficult - possibly.
- Makes creating Stub and Disambiguation pages harder, but this could be done with a checkbox and automatic text.
- Could it be done?

[edit] Google search
idea: when accessing a non-existing article, there could be a link to a google search for the article's title. snok from #mediawiki also suggested an internal search. how do u think? Optim 22:30, 1 Feb 2004 (UTC)
[edit] On new page scenerio
I like that idea alot, although maybe insead of "enter first sentance here" just have a subject line, or "brief description of the article" which could also be display by search results and the Recent changes page. IsaacFreeman
